Did you graduate in 2023 from DCU? Did you complete an undergraduate, postgraduate, research, or part-time certificate, diploma or degree? We want to hear from you in our HEA Graduate Outcome Survey! The data from this survey helps me with a ton of projects that I work on as part of the Careers Service so all input is really helpful! This is a great opportunity for recent graduates to share what they have been doing since graduation (further study, travel, employment etc.) and gives you an opportunity to provide feedback on your experience of the course. All data is anonymised. Please check your DCU email account for your link to complete the survey online, it will just take a couple of minutes! #HigherEducation #careers #employment #business #DCUBusinessSchool #GraduateOutcomesSurvey

Will 'structured' application questions pave the way to fairer uni admissions in the UK? 🎓 Great to read the news just now that UCAS (the UK's university admissions agency) are scrapping the personal statement section of applications and replacing it with 3 structured questions in September 2025. 1. Why do you want to study this course or subject? 2. How have your qualifications and studies helped you to prepare for this course or subject? 3. What else have you done to prepare outside of education, and why are these experiences helpful? I think this is a step in the right direction (and from my own experience, going over every word of that previously very free-form statement - several times - and hoping that it was what my preferred unis were looking for was not much fun!) But of course, even with more clarity on what you need to answer, there will still be gaps in knowledge of the types of responses that universities are looking for. I still feel that those with extensive access to career role models, advice, and writing support will have an advantage in answering these questions well. 📜 How can we close the gap even further? #Careers #CareersGuidance #CareersCoaching #UCAS #PersonalStatement #SocialMobility

_______________________________________ "Thanks for your message and interest in my lab. I am looking for new Ph.D. students (Fall 2025) so please apply to our Grad Studies program." _________________________________________ Dear Graduate School Hopeful, Once you get the above reply from a Professor you cold mail, the following are your next lines of action; 1. Search the Department/School if they have funding via GRA, GTA or GA. See if you qualify for the GRA position available. 2. Check the Date for their virtual open day and attend. Don't forget to get the application fee waiver code, if available. 3. Apply for the position. Mention the Professor as someone you have contacted ab-initio. (This may only be necessary if you are asked to). 4. Reach back to the Prof, that you have applied. In this mail, ask if there is funding. Tell him you are open to further directives and guidance. Express your gratitude again for his willingness to have you in his Lab. 5. Wait on your mail for the interview schedule date. Prepare for it and go be the best. Should you do well at the interview, you are on your way to a funded MS/PhD position. Generally, I consider that kind of reply, a 25% success story. Now that you know, go and send out more cold mails. #scholarshipnoticeboard #phd #students #interview #school #msc

As Prof Tan's article pointed out, it is misleading to say that academic qualifications are more important than skills or vice versa. The issue which I am more concerned about is not the 'divide' but the 'qualification'. Replacing the paper-chase for academic qualifications with skills-based qualifications does not make us any better in facing the challenges before us. The issue is whether we love to learn. If our system of education, examination and employment is set up to prioritise qualifications over learning, then we are none the wiser in this endless chase from one goal post to another. But a correction to the over-emphasis on academic qualification based on exam grades is timely, having said the above. In some round-about ways, part of this national movement to emphasise skills-based learning is a strategy to de-emphasise exam grades per se. De-emphasising grades is one. But promoting learning and harnessing the curiosity our children possess is another.
Qualifications v skills: Is one just paper, the other the real deal?

"California State University pilots direct admissions program" While direct admissions can simplify the path to college, it’s not a substitute for the deeper work institutions must do to communicate their value. The critical factor lies in how colleges engage with prospective students by delivering a compelling, evidence-backed message about career pathways and the lifelong benefits of their programs. Students need to understand exactly how a college degree from a specific institution translates into real-world advantages, such as employability, earnings potential, and career resilience. Colleges that clearly connect their programs to specific career paths — through data on job placement rates, median salaries, and in-demand skills — will stand out to students who are concerned about ROI. What do you think about direct admissions? https://lnkd.in/d2-vug_B

𝗨𝗦 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀: 𝗜𝘀 𝗪𝗘𝗦 𝗘𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗻𝗲𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗺𝘆 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀? 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗲 𝟭𝟭 The answer: It depends. Requirements vary among Programs and Schools. If it's not part of the eligibility criteria, it may not be necessary - I didn't do it myself. 𝗛𝗼𝘄𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿, 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝗮 𝘁𝗶𝗽, 𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘀: Many top US schools require a minimum CGPA of 3.0/4.0, equivalent to 3.8/5.0 through direct conversion. But WES evaluation uses a different metric based on raw scores, which typically interprets a slightly lower CGPA, like 3.5/5.0, as 3.0/4.0. If you're in this situation and aim for schools that require 3.0/4.0, WES could provide the extra boost you need. You may use the WES calculator (attached in the comment section) to verify what the evaluated CGPA will be. ================================ WES (World Education Services) evaluation validates academic credentials from foreign educational institutions for use in the US and Canada. 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽𝘀: 1. Application: complete an online application on the WES website (added to the comment section). 2. Document Submission: request your school to send official transcripts to WES. 3. Pay the evaluation fee. 5. Report Generation: WES produces an official report, summarizing credentials, GPA conversion, and course-by-course evaluation. 6. Delivery: The evaluation report is sent to you electronically which you can use for the application process. Once accepted, you can request WES to forward the official transcript to your school. ================================ What have you learnt in this Module?
