Anthony Di Benedetto this morning, highlighting what academic departments can do to support researchers in applying for grants but great to see the recognition and value the central research office can add: "An important resource for any funding proposal writer is the research support office. This office is staffed by experienced funding proposal writers, who can provide general guidance on finding writing as well as support on specific proposals. Too often, academics turn to these offices as a last resort when finalizing their funding proposal, for example, when they need an authority person to sign off on the proposal. Instead, it is beneficial (especially for early-career academics) to get involved with the research support office early, as the staff can be particularly helpful in many ways throughout the funding writing process."

🤔 Soliciting Co-Authors (for a fee)?! This kind of messages are everywhere now—I get something like this almost every day! It’s pretty sad to see how the pressure to "publish or perish" has gotten so intense that people are reaching out to pay for co-authors just to get their papers published. It really makes you think about how the system is pushing researchers into these kinds of situations. THEIR LIT REVIEW WAS RIPPED TO SHREDS. Why? For multiple reasons: They didn't know what was expected of them. They didn't know how to synthesize the works of multiple scholars. They didn't know which scholars to put into conversation.  They didn't know how to engage the scholarship. They lacked structure and flow.
