Are you passing up on the service contract because you don't have technicians? Are you struggling to find technicians who are not asking for the world? This conversation with a client led to new opportunities. Compressed Air Distributor President: “Matthew, I like that you find technicians with experience, but my problem with them is that they can damage goods. Me: How so? President: Technicians from larger companies, in my experience, have picked up bad habits.” Me: “What are you looking for?” President: “Find me an industrial mechanic who has worked on compressors, pumps, and gearboxes. Fresh clay.” Me: I then shared stories of the best mechanics that I know. Industrial mechanics who plant managers and supervisors count on. President: “Yes. I can turn people like that into the best field service engineers in the market.” Me: This opens a sea of opportunities for technicians who will be thankful for someone giving them the chance to step away from shift work. President; “Go find them.” The answer is right under your nose. Technicians and shift mechanics facilities that you service and maintain. These Industrial mechanics know how to think creatively on the off-shift. These are mechanics that take pride in saving the day. Offer them the opportunity. And you will have a loyal employee who is grateful to be given the career break they have been dreaming of.
