What a watershed moment! When I joined the energy sector as a trader back in 2006, coal was fundamental to balancing the system and keeping the lights on. The possibility of a system without any coal generation was almost unimaginable. It's easy to focus on what still needs to happen but worth pausing to reflect on just how far we've come. Now we just need to up the pace to deliver a net zero energy system that is secure, sustainable and affordable. #Energy #EndOfCoal #PowerGeneration #Sustainable #EnergySystem

The G7’s Communique does not embrace a balanced, pragmatic and responsible approach to energy policy. FutureCoal CEO Michelle Manook said the official Communique is ambiguous in its aims as “many of the G7 countries do not rely on coal for baseload electricity anymore. The ones in the G7 that continue to use coal, namely Germany and Japan, have publicly stated that they still need coal to keep the lights on.” These forums must acknowledge our Sustainable Coal Stewardship roadmap, which unveils existing abatement and commercial opportunities for the coal value chain to align with the 1.5°C goal. Some good news on #CliamteAction, the UK has shut down their last coal power station. Generating electricity from coal is the worst way in terms of carbon emissions. That's why this is so important, especially coming from a country which development has been historically fueled by coal. #Coal #CarbonEmissions #CO2Emissions #ClimateEmergency #ClimateCrisis #ClimateChange #sdg13 #Sustainability #Electricity https://lnkd.in/d_Ut2Q-t

As of today, the UK's energy landscape is changed forever. The last coal plant in the country ending its operations marks the end of an era and is a strong signal towards the adoption of more sustainable energy that will reduce our impact on climate change. Great to read from the article that battery technology is the big game changer that will support this energy transition. https://lnkd.in/duQpinpP BBC News Mark Poynting Miho Tanaka Justin Rowlatt Kayte O'Neill Sylwia Walus #batterymanagementsystems #BMS #energystorage #energy #BESS

Bye bye, coal!!! 👋 Next on the list... fossil fuels! As Britain bids farewell to its last coal power station, I can't help but feel a mixture of excitement and relief. With the final puff of coal smoke disappearing, the UK becomes the first G7 country to close the chapter on this era of energy. Now, it's time to keep the momentum going and fast-track the end of ALL fossil fuels. While we celebrate this milestone, we know the real work lies ahead. Renewables, reforestation (we're planting trees too 🌳😉), and nature-based solutions are the future we’re shaping—because there's no planet B! Let’s keep pushing, innovating, and protecting this planet we call home..... and join me in waving goodbye to coal! 👋 #NetZero #FossilFree #ClimateAction #RenewableEnergy #JUSTONETree #EndOfAnEra #UNDecadeOnEcosystemRestoration https://lnkd.in/e3Snbvyz

Yesterday saw the closure of the UK's last coal-fired power plant, marking a definitive shift towards renewable energy. This transition is crucial for meeting the UK's net zero targets and represents a strategic move in our fight against climate change. Once pillars of our energy supply, coal plants have now been overtaken by cleaner, more sustainable technologies. Their closure is not just a technical update - it's a meaningful symbol of how far we've come on our path to a sustainable future. https://lnkd.in/eZ4cJDts #NetZero #RenewableEnergy #ClimateAction #EnergyTransition #Coal

The UK is closing the chapter on 142 years of coal-powered electricity with the shutdown of its last coal-fired power plant, Ratcliffe-on-Soar in Nottinghamshire. This milestone makes Britain the first G7 nation to entirely phase out coal power. Since 1882, coal-fired plants have consumed 4.6 billion tonnes of coal and emitted 10.4 billion tonnes of CO2, according to Carbon Brief. The UK phaseout strategy is built on four pillars: ensuring #renewable sources meet rising demand, halting new coal plant construction, accounting for externalities like air pollution, and establishing a clear phaseout timeline a decade in advance. As the UK aims to #decarbonise its power sector by 2030, long duration energy storage technologies are critical to strengthen energy security, deepen grid resilience, and ensure a reliable balance of supply and demand alongside cutting hazardous carbon and air emissions.
