Reading the curriculum chapter in Sammy Wright’s insightful Exam Nation has really made me reflect on how much, as educators, we are gatekeepers to learning- deciding for students what & how to learn. Simple Steps how the curriculum is driven by children: 1. To start, carefully observe and listen to your students. Identify their interests, pay attention to questions they ask, recognize their strengths. Take notes of topics that capture their attention the most. It's essential to truly grasp their preferences. Keep your eyes and ears open! 2. Brainstorm students about different ideas you can implement in the curriculum by using different tools: mind map, group discussions, doTmocracy, tokens, anything else that help encourage students to share their thoughts, interests, and passions. 3. Act as a facilitator, welcoming all student ideas even if they may seem bold. Try to find a harmonious balance between their interests and the curriculum objectives. 4. Develop a plan based on the insights gathered and implement it! Take proactive steps to align the curriculum with student feedback and adjust course content as necessary. Today, we made a plan for April so that when we come back from the spring holidays, we will be all set and ready to start working on our new topic "Food" that is integrated across all subjects.
