Whenever I'm out of something, the first thing I do is check if I can get it delivered by Swiggy, Blinkit, or Zepto, rather than going out to a store.
The other day, I realized I was out of coffee. Instead of putting on my shoes and walking to the corner store, I instantly grabbed my phone to scroll through Swiggy Instamart, my go-to app for its reliability and efficiency.
But old habits die hard, and I couldn't resist checking Zepto too—my close second.
And Before I knew it, I was bouncing between the two apps, comparing prices and offers.
In the time I spent scrolling through these apps, I could have easily walked to a nearby store and got my coffee.
Yet, the allure of doorstep delivery kept me glued to my screen.
Then, there I saw it - "Free delivery on orders above ₹200!" My coffee was only ₹150.” And so I started adding random items to my cart.
Chips I didn't need, a chocolate bar I hadn't planned on... suddenly my ₹150 coffee run turned into a ₹300 snack haul! 🥦🧅🌽🥨🥟🍟🍅🍩🍪🥖🍫
My original purpose - to buy that one essential item - got lost in a sea of impulse purchases.
It didn't stop there. My house help asked for some cleaning supplies, and my first thought wasn't, "Let's go to the store."
Nope, I took my phone out again faster than you can say "Swiggy."
This experience has made me pause and reflect.
Are these quick commerce apps truly making our lives easier, or are they subtly reshaping our spending habits and decision-making processes?
On one hand, they've undeniably simplified our routines. No more lugging heavy grocery bags or planning shopping trips around our busy schedules.
But on the flip side, I'm noticing changes in how I approach everyday purchases. That impulsive "I want it now" feeling seems to pop up more often.
I'd love to hear your thoughts. How has quick commerce impacted your daily life? Are you finding yourself in similar situations?
