Love him or hate him, Elon put on quite the show last night. Check out the video link below, the presentation started late (1 hour and 1 minute in)... It's a really compelling vision of the future, but how feasible or realistic is it? Will people give up their cars? Elon's logic on safety makes sense, but is the software there yet? Studies have shown that autonomous cars have had safety issues in low light or when turning; the situational awareness isn't quite there yet. All Teslas will have the capability for unsupervised driving. It's an exciting vision of the future, taking back vast parking lots, being able to relax/sleep, coupled with the low average use of personal cars per week—he has a point. Did the Robovan give anyone else some serious Dune vibes? Optimus robot party, anyone?! What is even going on? Yesterday afternoon, there was a Pivotal Helix flying car buzzing around Sausalito. The future may already be here... https://lnkd.in/gPMtyjsq #ElonMusk #CyberCab #Robovan

When designing ADAS features for stop-and-go traffic, every meter counts. Aptiv's ADAS platform detects vehicles farther away by using machine learning to optimize the strengths of radar. Machine learning enables the system to accurately track stationary vehicles, while Aptiv’s legacy of automated driving gives us the experience and motion-planning tools to fine-tune vehicle control at low speeds. #EVs #Mobility

As I read “Human Compatible” by Stuart Russell (a fascinating read) a thought occurred to me about self driving cars: why do we care if the car has a steering wheel, front seats (a defined front, actually), color cameras, and all other things that we ascertain as key? One of the limitations in the implementation of AI systems, especially those that interface with humans (cars, robots, etc) is our level of comfort. After all, cars have always had steering wheels. We need to break the bounds of normalcy: from cars to robots to drug design and diagnostics. #artificialintelligence #machinelearning #aiandml #drugdiscovery

Navigating the Future: The Rise of Autonomous Driving In the not-so-distant past, the concept of cars driving themselves seemed like a distant dream confined to the realms of science fiction. However, with rapid advancements in technology and the convergence of artificial intelligence, sensors, and connectivity, autonomous driving is quickly becoming a reality, poised to revolutionize the way we move. Autonomous driving, also known as self-driving or driverless technology, refers to vehicles capable of sensing their environment and navigating without human input. From semi-autonomous features like adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance to fully autonomous vehicles that require no human intervention, the spectrum of autonomous driving is vast and evolving. The potential benefits of autonomous driving are far-reaching. Improved road safety is perhaps the most compelling argument in favor of autonomous vehicles. By eliminating human error, which is responsible for the majority of accidents on the road today, autonomous driving has the potential to save countless lives and prevent injuries. Moreover, autonomous vehicles are designed to obey traffic laws rigorously and react faster than humans, further enhancing safety. Beyond safety, autonomous driving promises to revolutionize transportation as we know it. With the ability to optimize routes, minimize congestion, and reduce emissions through efficient driving patterns, autonomous vehicles have the potential to transform urban mobility and reduce the environmental impact of transportation. Additionally, autonomous ride-sharing services could make transportation more accessible and affordable for people of all ages and abilities, revolutionizing the way we think about car ownership. However, the road to widespread adoption of autonomous driving is not without its challenges. Technical hurdles, regulatory considerations, and public acceptance are just a few of the factors that need to be addressed before autonomous vehicles become a common sight on our roads. Ensuring the safety and reliability of autonomous systems, establishing legal frameworks to govern their use, and addressing concerns about privacy and cybersecurity are critical steps in realizing the full potential of autonomous driving. Despite these challenges, the future of autonomous driving is bright. With continued investment, innovation, and collaboration across industries, autonomous vehicles have the potential to reshape our cities, improve road safety, and enhance the way we move and interact with the world around us. As we navigate the road ahead, one thing is clear: the future of transportation is autonomous, and it's closer than we think.

Cobot from KUKA as the steering wheel! 🧡 The future is now! Calm down, it's an ancient concept from 2015 based on the electrically-driven BMW i3 It was expected to be the next generation of autonomous urban driving back then. In terms of economics, it is absurdly unreasonable, but satisfying to watch. The steering wheel is mounted on the KUKA lightweight robot, the LBR iiwa. It can be moved across the entire width of the vehicle, allowing both the driver and passenger to operate it. Imagine the 'let me drive!' arguments with your wife or husband! ~~~ ✍️ Would love your thoughts. ♻️ Repost to help 1 robot find a new workplace. 🔔 Don't click any bell to be notified. 4moThere’s no comparison for repeatability in testing. Especially brake testing. In my humble opinion, of course. I’m sure there are humans that can operate like a robot, but they are rare. :-)
