The textile industry is facing new legal requirements that require manufacturers to take full responsibility for the entire lifecycle of their products - including circularity after use. This Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for textiles was a key topic at IFAT Munich, where Jonas Stracke, Head of Circular Economy and Resource Efficiency at the Confederation of the German Textile and Fashion Industry, discussed the issue with two experts. Julia Hobohm (Managing Director of the Joint Battery Take-Back System) emphasised the need for a clear strategy and infrastructure, while Julia Haas (Project Manager Business Development at Interzero Circular Solutions Germany GmbH) stressed the need for a cross-industry blueprint ahead of upcoming legislation. 🌍 New Sustainability Report is out - At tesa #WeDo I'm excited to share that our new sustainability report is out, highlighting our continuous efforts and successes in sustainability. For me it is incredibly rewarding to see the positive impact that we are making as a multinational company, a manufacturer of innovative adhesive solutions, a business partner, and as an employer. 👉🏻 We Do: Reduce Emissions One of our proudest achievements is surpassing our climate goal for 2025 by achieving a remarkable 38% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, two years ahead of schedule. This accomplishment, validated by the Science Based Targets initiative, inspires us to set even higher targets, now aiming for a total reduction of 50% in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2025. We have also implemented significant changes in our manufacturing processes. For instance, our site in Sparta, USA, has successfully converted to completely solvent-free production, resulting in a 38% reduction in local CO₂ emissions and saving around 1,100 tons of CO₂. We are proud to have achieved major milestones on the road to climate neutrality. 👉🏻 We Do: Rethink Materials In addition we are actively pursuing responsible procurement, circular economy practices, and waste prevention. Our goal is to increase the proportion of bio-based and recycled raw materials across our entire product range to 70% by 2030. We have already launched around 40 new more sustainable products in 2023 alone, including the innovative tesafilm® Eco & Crystal. 🥇 Awarded and Recognized Our commitment to sustainability has not gone unnoticed. We are proud to have received the prestigious EcoVadis Gold medal again, positioning tesa in the top 1% of our industry. Furthermore, the non-profit organization CDP awarded us with the top grade of A for our climate protection efforts and progress. These recognitions validate our commitment to transparency and sustainability across our supply chain. From the fabric to the zippers and buckles, the new Mono[PA6] Backpack is a milestone on the path to a circular future. Made from a single material, polyamide 6, the backpack can be recycled without requiring complex dismantling. They return to Zurich via the FREITAG take-back service and, from there, the backpack gets recycled in its entirety at the end of its life.
