Are People Ready for the Age of Artificial Intelligence? 🧠 AI is rapidly transforming the world, but the pertinent question still remains: Do people truly want it at this point in time? Such opinion not only came from the sceptics but rather from research that showed despite countries such as Singapore, Denmark, and the U.S. leading the AI Preparedness Index with scores over 0.75, it is not only about structures, investments or policies. It is about the people’s psychology: their willingness, hesitations and perception of AI as a tool that has the potential to set them free. In many regions, it is the fear of ambiguity that appears to be the obstacle for advancement. But what’s common in the best positioned societies is not simply hope but the willingness to educate, trust, and advocate how AI can aid in being beneficent for development, inspiration and efficacy. This civilization map should not simply be seen as a hierarchy; it is an indictment of our ability to adopt an AI driven future. It beckons policymakers, teachers and creators to think beyond borders of technology construction and focus on creating an AI positive society that celebrates AI as opposed to anxiety. 🌐 Exploring the Synergy of AI and Human Intelligence in Strategic Change Management for Public Administration 🌐 Global megatrends such as climate change, demographic shifts, and digitalization demand that public administration becomes increasingly agile and ready to adapt to unforeseen challenges. In this demanding environment, the role of artificial intelligence in strategic change management becomes critical: can AI enhance public sector adaptability while addressing the complexities of resistance to new technology? My research, “Synergy of AI and Human Intelligence: Navigating Resistance Towards Systemic Capability in Strategic Change Management,” tackles these questions by examining the role of AI within the public healthcare strategy of the North Savo Wellbeing Services County. I focus particularly on how combining AI and human intelligence can foster comprehensive change resilience and build trust in emerging technologies. The goal of my research is to develop practical solutions and models to help the public sector meet future challenges, emphasizing ethical, trust-based, and human-centered perspectives. :- The Paradox of Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Liebestod Nick Bostrom, a philosopher at Oxford University known for his work on existential risk, believes that AI could plausibly destroy humanity if not properly managed. According to Bostrom, if AI surpasses human intelligence, even the best possible outcome could be disastrous. In his 2014 book, "Superintelligence," Bostrom argues that once machines surpass human intelligence, they might manipulate or deceive us. Such a superior AI, if their values do not align with ours, could lead to catastrophic and unprecedented events, despite our best intentions and management. However, Bostrom also sees the potential for AI to be a tool for good, possibly fixing everything from climate change to global poverty if we can align it with human values and control it sufficiently. He suggests that AI is not inherently dangerous, but rather the risk lies in the misalignment of values between humans and AI. This makes achieving value-alignment within AI—ensuring that the AI wants what we want—an urgent necessity. Slow progress is being made toward this. AI alignment has become an established field, though it remains under-resourced and many questions around the technical and strategic aspects are yet to be answered. I've got countless hours of research under my belt, but understanding the societal implications of Artificial Intelligence was the toughest. When I started delving into the world of AI, I had: 1. A basic understanding of its technical aspects 2. Heard about its potential to revolutionize industries 3. A vague idea of how it might impact daily life 4. Heard the fear of job losses due to automation. And that was the best part. Unraveling the multi-layered intricacies of AI, watching it all unfold, and understanding the societal implications was like revealing an elaborate tapestry. But one thing I had was my love and passion for AI and its influence on society. Here's what I did: 1. Read extensively on the subject 2. Interacted with experts in the field 3. Analysed real-life use cases 4. Explored its potential impacts on employment, privacy, and ethics 5. Studied how different societies are adapting (or not) to AI. One thing I have understood is: 1. AI's impact on society is a double-edged sword 2. A balanced approach and proactive regulation can mitigate potential negative impacts 3. An informed society can harness AI's benefits while safeguarding against its societal implications. That's it. AI is here to stay and its societal implications are significant. In a time when everyone is worried about #AI, let's take a look at the bestselling book "Superintelligence" by philosopher #Nick Bostrom, published by #Oxford University Press in 2016. The content of the book is interesting, especially since it was written at a time when there were no concerns about the existence of #AGI (Artificial General Intelligence). In #Superintelligence, Bostrom explains that superintelligence could emerge through different paths, such as advancements in AI, brain emulation, or biological enhancement. Once AI reaches a level beyond human intelligence, it could rapidly improve itself, becoming far more capable and powerful. This rapid development poses significant risks, as a superintelligent AI might not share human goals and values, potentially leading to catastrophic outcomes if it acts in ways we cannot control or predict. The book emphasizes the urgency of aligning superintelligent AI with #human values and goals. Bostrom discusses strategies for controlling or influencing superintelligence, such as careful design, ethical programming, and international cooperation to ensure that the development of AI is safe and beneficial. One notable observation was AI's persistent struggle with mathematical complexity, indicating areas where refinement is needed. Despite this limitation, discussions highlighted AI's huge potential in addressing the climate crisis, offering promising avenues for innovation in everything from battery cells to urban planning to carbon capture, just like it has already revolutionised pharmaceuticals and early disease detection. Top 10 takeaways from the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI)'s #ai Index Report 2024. Strangely (at least for me), the environmental impact is not part of the takeaways, although the chapter on it (2.13 Environmental Impact of AI Systems) is very interesting. Just consider this figure below illustrating CO2 equivalent emissions. 1. AI beats humans on some tasks, but not on all. 2. #industry continues to dominate frontier AI research. 3. Frontier models get way more expensive. 4. The United States leads China, the EU, and the U.K. as the leading source of top AI models. 5. Robust and standardized evaluations for #llm responsibility are seriously lacking.  6. #generativeai investment skyrockets. 7. The data is in: AI makes workers more productive and leads to higher quality work. 8. #scientificprogress accelerates even further, thanks to AI. 9.
