Analyzing the factors contribute to achieving sustainable development goals in Pakistan: A novel policy framework

Delighted to announce the publication of my recent paper, “Rising Wave of Climate Refugees: History, Laws, and Global Strategies with Bangladeshi Perspective” has been officially published in the International Journal of Advanced Legal Research (IJALR), Volume 4, Issue 4. IJALR is an international online journal where scholars can publish short articles, long articles, book reviews, case comments, research papers, and essays about law. This paper manifests why people are forced to leave their homes due to climate change. It elicits at how severe weather affects places like Bangladesh. It suggests that we need better plans to help these people and urges everyone to work together to solve this problem. I extend my heartfelt thanks to my supervisor, Ms. Shamshad Bashar Ma’am, for her guidance and support during my research journey. Do give it a read. This paper written by TPP Associate Beverley Jones and Daniel Oosthuizen, and published by the Thinking and Working Politically Community of Practice, is based on the Kullana Liltanmia (KLP) Contextual Analysis (CA) course in Sudan. Great to see The World Bank staff grappling with questions of state-building in fragile contexts--in this case of Somalia (drawing on lessons from Afghanistan, various African countries and the broader literature) as a way of moving beyond the limits of current projectized aid interventions and parallel delivery models. The paper concludes that "progress on fostering a stable political elite bargain or building inclusive, transparent, and accountable public sector systems may not be linear or fast. However, the effort is worth investing in for future resilience and stability". Pleased to see the World Bank paper addressing the question of state legitimacy, citing some of Aoife McCullough's findings on Uganda and Pakistan via ODI Global’s former Secure Livelihoods Research Consortium. Drawing on the Consortium's final research outputs, Aoife and I did a World Bank post on the importance of rethinking state legitimacy in FCV contexts--arguing the importance of a social constructivist approach to legitimacy, political settlements and disputed services. I previously outlined a new approach to resilient state-building via pieces for the OECD - OCDE and Columbia | SIPA, revisiting the earlier vision of the OECD DAC (Carsten Staur) for resilient states/statebuilding, and outlining a politically-informed, adaptive and collaborative approach to resilience for strengthening state systems and political settlements. The AfDB ,our Bank captured my views during the AfDB annual meetings in May 2024, Nairobi. We need to fix poverty not only in #kenya but entire #africa. Let's encourage #development while protecting our #environment for intra and intergenerational equity. We also need proper economic valuation of our natural resources which boosts our ratings and should be considered a strength! not to forget our cheap and readily available labor market from our youths and the young people. Our rich ecosystems sink alot of carbon emissions to counter #climatechange effects. Our country ,Kenya is peaceful and we are at an information era whereby there's more need for accountability and transparency, just like in any good #leadership and #governance! #sustainability #agenda2063 We need customized solutions ..by Africa. ..of Africa...for Africa.. Happy to announce the launch of our World Bank paper written jointly with my fellow development practitioners Gael R., Zubair Bhatti and I . Our paper adds to the debate on the complex relationships between administrative capacity, service delivery, political processes, and legitimacy - critical state-building questions. We argue that a social contract approach can better explain why state legitimacy may not necessarily improve despite dramatic improvements in service delivery. Our paper advocates that effective donor engagement in FCV countries, requires humility and realism about what international actors can achieve. It also suggests ideas for doing things differently (considering the necessary humility with ‘innovative’ options). Acacia Dialogue Center
