Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership: Collaborate with fellow co-founders to define the company's vision, mission, and strategic priorities. Develop and execute a comprehensive business plan to achieve short-term and long-term objectives. Drive continuous innovation and differentiation to maintain competitive edge in market. Team Building & Management: Recruit, lead, and mentor a high-performing team of professionals aligned with the company's values and culture. Provide ongoing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities to team members to help them grow and excel in their roles. Product & Technology Leadership: Lead the development and execution of the company's product roadmap, ensuring alignment with customer needs, market trends, and business objectives. Oversee the design, development, and launch of innovative products and features that deliver exceptional value to customers and drive business growth. Business Development & Partnerships: Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships and alliances that enhance the company's market presence, reach, and revenue opportunities. Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, investors, suppliers, and industry partners. Eligibility Criteria: - Investment of INR 15 lakhs is required for this role for ownership level commitment - Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for building and scaling businesses, along with a high tolerance for ambiguity and risk -Bachelor's Degree; MBA preferred. Compensation: Remuneration in terms of ESOP/equity (upto 30 Lakhs value) initially, based on skills, experience & qualifications. Salary thereafter would be no bar for the top performers. If you've had a great tech product idea and have enough industry knowledge to see a fit that's good enough to get going certainly in a B2B business where you'll have fewer but larger customer - it's more important to understand the cost to get to market and scale up. So how much does it cost to start a tech company on a solid idea and build a product to fit a need? Well your starting personal skills base is key here. If you're in marketing or Sales then you'll likely quickly sell the idea for little cost but then have to manage product development and that is easily going to run to over £250k for decent minimum viable product development. That product will be late and you will risk disappointing clients. If you're starting out with a tech background you'll get the product for nearer £100/£150k with you doing more of the work but......covering those costs with new Sales while trying to develop a product is high risk. This is why the best startups have a Sales / Marketing lead and a tech lead. I'd suggest you double your chances of success. So why don't we see a big spike of successful 2 person tech firms dominating the market? Firstly I believe its because of seed funding. Venture Capitalists may be many things but they're not daft. They also know a good two person firm with good experience and a prototype product is a safer investment. Founders love the attraction of easier money so seed funding lets them build and scale very early.As soon as they do that their advantage has gone. You've just lumbered yourself with a burn rate of other people's money to pay a wage bill 5x higher but the status of being a "proper" company. Secondly it's where both of more parties entering into a new business have different expectations on salary or at different life stages. Amazing even the best of friends don't have those conversations before they start. It needs to be clear. How long can you personally survive at "x" salary and how long can the firm support that in early stages. So that's all I have on this. Don't start just on your own. Don't just start with tech people alone. Be clear on actual realistic take home salary in early months and years. Don't scale up or take VC funding until you have 5-10 large stable corporate accounts Now I just need to heed my own advice!

A top biller is always a powerhouse in any company. Their performance, attitude, and abilities are geared toward success. However, it's rare for a top biller to achieve greatness solo. Why? Because in a business, you're surrounded by a wealth of support - infrastructure, back office, tech resources, your team, and more. And on my calls, when my lead wants to discuss setting up for themself, they feel overwhelmed about how they are going to spin all the plates whilst taking care of the setting-up, back office, tech, finance, advisory, etc., it seems so much harder than the reality. You need a good understanding of your situation and a tailored service that can help you stay in that driving seat and focus on your strengths (recruitment, relationships, growth etc) whilst learning and leaning on others (just like you have done as an employee, but now for yourself). Your ability to focus on your recruitment expertise is crucial in the startup phase - you need to get ramping up sales. This is where you have the most experience and success, which will drive your startup to be profitable, sustainable, and grow. It seems that people weren't particularly interested in arguing with me yesterday. I wrote a short post on the decline of fractionals, here's the longer version. First off some clarifications: 1. Fractional = Ongoing covering multiple projects on a non full time basis. 2. Referring to those operating in early stage / VC backed. 3. Not backed by hard data, based on experience and 'vibes'. So why do I think this to be the case, and why would I say this when I run a fractional CFO shop? Second question first: I run a fractional CFO shop because we solve for the biggest problem - biz dev. Suffice to say, I think the 'problem' of biz dev is challenging and will be one of the drivers for change. Let's set the scene. The explosion of fractional talent started with the explosion of capital over the last 5 - 10 years. This led to the following: • Startups with money, but not enough money to build full teams. • Individuals with (some) experience interested in working with startups. • Individuals looking to do consultancy whilst building something else. During this period you saw fractional talent flood the market as supply raced to meet demand. It also led to creation of marketplace platforms for various types of fractional talent. These fractionals operated across multiple disciplines - marketing, finance, product, engineering, sales and operations. For a while it seemed to work well. Fractionals brought expertise at a fraction (heh) of the cost of a full time head (though more expensive on a FTE basis). But as things unfolded, the following problems arose: 1. Some fractionals were looking to consult, i.e. advise but not execute 2. Some startups built teams because they could, not because they should have. 3. Some fractionals were not actually qualified to do what they said they could. 4. Some roles were actually not fractional, some require day to day involvement in the business. 5. On the platform side, quality control was sacrificed for the illusion of scale. And then we hit 2022. • Funding slowed and fewer companies got funded. • Startups became more cash conscious. • Talent surplus even as demand shrunk. • Decision times stretching out. So, for many fractionals who had relied on a small 'mates' network to find roles now can't, and, as it turns out, doing biz dev whilst delivering services is tough. The illusion of 'security' is gone. Fractional work is feast and famine. This doesn't work for most. Many will realise that they'd be better off in a full time role. Finally, startups have never been more aware of the need for trust in this space. Turns out it's easier to rely on people like me who have built that trust over years across the ecosystem than assume a cheaper consultant will do the job. Capital and talent are intertwined and I think for many, the rose tinted view of 'freedom' is starting to disappear as the reality of biz dev in a hard, and slow, market starts to bite.
