This is a great idea! It’s a smart way to leverage the affordances of AR to make the ‘unseen’ mountain of gifts in landfills, seen.

How Philips used AR to sell 52,000 returned gifts and fight holiday waste. Every year, 10 million returned gifts end up in landfills. For Earth Day, Philips & Lens That took action. In Berlin, they used AR to visualize the scale of e-waste. A massive digital landfill showed how much we throw away. AR didn’t just show the problem. • It made it real. • People could see it. • Feel its size • And connect with the impact. The campaign led to: • 185 tons of e-waste prevented. • 277 tons of CO2 emissions avoided. • 52,000 returned products sold out. AR elevated this campaign. It turned data into an experience. And it inspired action that created real change. As we head into the holidays, it’s worth reflecting. P.S. Share this to help someone rethink waste this Christmas.
