Why should employers hire student-athletes? Well, let our University of Michigan Athletics student-athletes share why: 1. Have a second-to-none work ethic: we master balancing a full academic course load, training, practicing, and competing 20+ hours a week, studying, volunteering, and campus involvement. 2. Fiercely competitive and goal-oriented: we know what it takes to get the job done, and done well. 3. Strong communication and collaboration skills: we have experience working with peers/teammates from different backgrounds who contribute diverse perspectives, thoughts, and ideas. 4. Know how to quickly pivot after receiving feedback, with experience overcoming failure, and learning/maturing from mistakes and challenges. 5. Ability to be calm and excel under pressure, in high-stress, fast-paced environments. Ever competed at the Big House, Crisler, Yost, the Olympics, etc.?! If this sounds like someone you’re looking to add to your team or partner with for an NIL deal, join us for our Annual Michigan Athletics Career x NIL Kickoff Monday, September 23rd at 7pm! Every year, I eagerly follow the NCAA March Madness tournament, drawn in by the impressive player resumés showcasing their on-court achievements. Having assisted numerous collegiate athletes, former Olympians, and hopefuls in new chapters of their professional lives, I am keenly aware of their accomplishments OFF the court, (as well as the field, ice, and track) while working on their resumés. What often goes unnoticed by other soon-to-be college graduates and working professionals is that they, too, are impactful performers in their own right. While their stage might not be as grand, their work-related successes, community involvement, and teamwork garner equal recognition on their resumés. When considering your marketability and career path, envision yourself as your OWN PERSONAL BRAND and what your unique blend of experiences and achievements can significantly contribute to an organization's success and growth! #careerdevelopment #careerstrategy #resumewriting #careercoaching

Much like college sports recruiting, the professional world has its own "eye test." Earning a scholarship becomes significantly harder if you don’t meet the typical size, speed, or physical attributes that college coaches look for. Some athletes have all the physical tools but remain stuck in their potential—they have the "know-how" but lack the "will to." The same principle applies in life after sports: many companies prioritize the "know-how" over the "will to." This distinction is what ultimately sets people apart in both sports and in life. #SportsToSales #SalesProcess #TakeAction #AthleteMindset #DailyDiscipline

I love the game of basketball. In my opinion, it is important to not solely focus on basketball or any other sports that our young athletes play. We should find ways to emphasize the importance of education. Having a degree, master’s degree, or doctorate is crucial because we cannot play sports forever, and the percentage of professional athletes is very small. Obtaining an education and earning a degree or higher qualification can elevate athletes to greater heights. I have noticed that many athletes feel lost after their four years in college. I believe that promoting education more strongly can open up more opportunities and provide clearer directions for them. Moreover, having a degree or master’s degree can lead to better job prospects and higher income. While it is true that some individuals can succeed without any formal education, I strongly believe that education can provide these young athletes with a better sense of direction and more promising futures. #basketball #studentathlete #mentor
