While the vendor search process may initially seem burdensome, following a few best practices can mitigate the inconveniences, and the benefits quickly overwhelm the burdens. https://hubs.ly/Q02Pw06V0

There is no technical vendor lock-in in IT (almost)... Just switching costs are constructed from time and money. I have seen a lot and I have made sub-optimal decisions, by avoiding lock-in. What to do? Make a cost analysis of how much will be switching from one solution to another if needed. In many cases, "lock-in" do less harm, than "avoiding it"

I've learned the hard way that diversifying your vendor base isn't just a "nice to have," it's essential. Sure, consolidating everything with a few key suppliers might seem cost-effective in the short term, but what happens when something goes wrong? A sudden disruption could bring your entire operation to a standstill. My advice? Nurture those smaller vendor relationships, even if they don't represent a huge chunk of your business right now. You never know when they might become invaluable.

Not to give away too many of the business secrets, but we are moving a lot of our clients to Cove for backups because it is NAS vendor agnostic if you are going to use one in the middle, and Cove just works better. The first client I put on it still hasn't had a single unsuccessful backup after 3 months. I can't go a couple weeks with the other vendors I've had. We go through N-able for it among other products. If you want to try it out, talk to Roger Collins.

The final three are here! But I have to comment on #13. This is just a part of their divide and conquer strategy. Chances are they were initially engaged by the person who is looking for the solution, so they already know them, and that is enough. The reason they want all the names is for their future sales opportunities and to push for approvals, outside of your internal processes.
