Data Defense and Access Assurance (DDAA) is not just a “thing” that we have to do, it’s a business imperative to ensure market access, jurisdictional regulatory compliance, operational business defense, and maintain the trust of our clients.  DDAA programs are necessary as core foundational program components for #AIDefense, #InsiderThreat, #PrivacyEnforcment, and many many many other basic business operations protection capabilities.  It all comes down to data.  That’s why I have been a HUGE proponent of the DSPM market, and when I saw that Cyera had acquired Trail Security (acquired by Cyera) I got really excited!  The ability to finally start the collapse and integration of core components of Data Defense and Data Enforcement technologies into a truly holistic and enforceable DSPM is the future of so many of the programs we are accountable for.  From shared AI advancements, threat intelligence, discovery, and so much else under one integrated product set.  I was fortunate enough today to meet with the founders of Trail, Zohar & Nadav, and get a glimpse into the further of the reality of true data fabric enabled DDAA.   Keep your eyes on where this goes.  Cyera just set another bar for the industry. #cybersecurity #datadefense #DSPM #DDAA #riskmanagment #datasecurity #Privacyenforcement #privacy #CISO

#BlackhatUSA2024 and #HackerSummerCamp are over for me, with a mix of unexpected surprises, met expectations, and changed plans. Out of the blue, I had the chance to participate in a panel with Axonius' CEO Dean Sysman, and to meet and learn from some great CISOs an leaders from a variety of organizations. The experience was superb. Overall, one goal for Blackhat was to benchmark how we are doing as a security program, and to learn more innovative ways to execute. This was certainly accomplished, as I got to delve deeper into latest trends and techniques in data protection, API security, and GenAI risks mitigation. I got to connect with smart practitioners and leaders like Michael Blache, John Van Ert, Timothy Poon, Mikael Vinding, and Joseph Vinikoor Of notable mention, let's not forget Tobias Stohr, who walked an insane number of miles in Spain, just for fun. He can tell you the story. I had planned to go to #DEFCON, but I couldn't -plans changed, and a sore throat sealed my weekend's fate. Now it is all about recovering.

We are only beginning to scratch the surface on the potential of Gen AI in Ireland! A colleague of mine, Neil Reddy recently created the below image using Gen AI to help me promote our upcoming SASE Summit at the Aviva Stadium Dublin on October 24th. The benefits of Gen AI are clear, they can be used for fun projects like this to create images, to help make that email to your boss or customer look more professional, and if used in the right way can dramatically increase productivity. But there is a dark side to Gen AI, a lot of organisations in Ireland are struggling with understanding Gen AI and how to safely enable it for the workforce. Common questions I hear daily are: 1. Can I trust Gen AI? 2. How can I gain visibility into what my employees are using Gen AI for? 3. How do I ensure no sensitive company data is being used in Gen AI? 4. How can I safely enable Gen AI? A terrific session at UofT for Board Governance and the Digital Tsunami: An Event to Honor David R Beatty C.M., O.B.E., F.ICD, CFA. Insightful talks by Nicolas Darveau-Garneau, Avi Goldfarb, Evan Epstein, Estelle Metayer, Christoph Shiller, and Michael Parent. Engaging panel discussions by Alexander Dyck, Bertrand Françoise, Kim Furlong, Wes Hall, ICD.D, Rick Powers, Glen Whyte, and Claude Lamoureux. There were touching video tributes by Roger Martin and Tiff Macklem. One insight is that AI is prediction technology–where the prediction speed and accuracy are increasing while the cost to make those predictions is falling. The transformational opportunities for AI are from developing system-level solutions.
