This could lead to more evidence-based decision-making and potentially improve the efficiency and effectiveness of governance. On the other hand, the rise of AI candidates could raise concerns about transparency and accountability. AI algorithms are often viewed as black boxes, making it difficult for voters to understand how decisions are made or hold AI candidates accountable for their actions. Additionally, there may be issues around data privacy and security, as AI candidates would require access to large amounts of personal data to function effectively. Overall, the impact of AI candidates on the democratic process will depend on how they are developed, regulated, and integrated into existing political systems. It will be important for policymakers to carefully consider the potential implications and address any challenges that may arise to ensure that the democratic process remains fair, transparent, and representative.

Following on from our Women in AI event last night with Next 100 Years: Women In Law and Linklaters, our report based on indicative research with women in the legal profession about attitudes when it comes to AI adoption. 🔸83% of women in law recognise AI’s transformative potential, yet 37% of organisations haven’t embraced it. Many women in law cite a lack of training, resources, and confidence. 🔸Barriers include 43% observing bias in AI tools and 37% raising concerns about accuracy. 🔸Women remain underrepresented in AI leadership and development: just 14% of AI paper authors and 22% of professionals globally are women. 🔸Despite these challenges, women in law believe in their power to shape AI for the better. With the right support - upskilling opportunities, inclusive leadership, and ethical oversight - AI could even be a catalyst for greater equality in law. How can we ensure AI works for everyone, not just the few? How can we in the legal profession play a key role? This is just the start of what we hope to fuel activism around this topic. A fascinating and worthwhile assessment of how we, as Public Sector, need to accelerate and better align our data infrastructure. Alongside that we need to invest in the skills and roles necessary to sustain data as a valuable business asset. I know too well the scrutiny that comes on organisations who are neither diverse or inclusive enough. That has to change too.
