Companies can ease the strain on employees taking care of elderly parents or ill family members. Beyond your employer, there may be other ways to reduce the physical, mental, and financial costs of caregiving. According to this article on CNN, one way to recoup some of that money may be by reducing your tax bill if you can claim the person you’re caring for as a dependent. You can find the tax help sheet link in the article here. https://ow.ly/271o50TFbrU #taxhelpsheet #caregiver #caregiversupport #financialhelpforcaregivers #CNN

According to a recent poll from the University of Michigan, more than 1 in 4 people age 50 and older help take care of at least one family member or friend who has a health problem or disability. Between the costs that come with potential healthcare bills and the need for babysitters during working hours, caregiving benefits are a growing necessity in our society. Having the means to care for your family and provide the best for them, and yourself, often requires companies to back you up in some way or another. With medical inflation on the rise, businesses seem to consider ancillary benefits a cost center when some of us are actually in the cost prevention business. #Caregiving #Healthcare #FutureOfWork

The way America provides long-term care to those who can no longer care for themselves is deeply flawed. And the toll on our nation’s 48 million family caregivers is often immense, as the support systems needed to assist them — whether from employers, the health care industry or government — come up short. Improving the long-term care system is one of AARP's top goals. As we mark the one-year anniversary of the White House Care Executive Order recognizing family caregivers as a national priority, we celebrate the progress made in the last year to support caregivers’ rapidly growing needs. But there is still work to be done. We are continuing to fight on many fronts to adjust attitudes about caregiving, and to change laws, influence employers and provide family caregivers with the resources, information and support they so desperately need. #Caregiving #FamilyCaregivers #LongtermCare #Advocacy #Policy

The province of PEI seems to be on the forefront of recognizing the critical role that family caregivers play in keeping their loved ones from having to move into long term care. This program pays the care recipient directly, and lets them make their own decision on how the money should be spent - including giving it to a family member. Any other provinces or states providing this level of direct support? Small province; big impact. #ageinplace #caregiving https://lnkd.in/eRRr6DC5

In a recent CBS Mornings Special reporter Lisa Ling discussed her own experience with caregiving for her aging parents, sharing: "It has opened my eyes to this catastrophic crisis. ... It is so unconscionable that only the very wealthy and the very poor can really get access to the kind of care that people are going to need. It has really made me think about how Americans spend their lives working. And ultimately, their future looks so bleak when it comes to the aging process. Our country is just so ill equipped to deal with [caring for] the millions of Americans who have spent their entire lives working and contributing to our economy." CareGo by Sompo Horizon is here to ensure caregiving resources are more widely available with innovative personalized care for your loved ones. Last night's Presidential debate between Harris and Trump featured a riveting, in-depth discussion on caregiving in America. I share it here for those who missed this crucial segment or wish to rewatch it. Oh wait, my mistake. There wasn't a single mention of caregiving. 🤐 Not one word about the 53 million Americans providing unpaid care for loved ones. That's over over 1-in-5 registered voters. Not a peep about the $600 billion economic impact of this invisible workforce. Instead, the candidates spent valuable time exchanging schoolyard insults, comparing rally sizes, discussing a hypothetical invasion of Poland...and how people are eating dogs! 🤯 Given the importance of caregiving to our nation—to America's families, economy, and future—I think we need to demand better. We need nuanced discussions about our values, our willingness to support caregivers, and how we'll innovate to meet the growing demand for care. In a world where: * Caregivers are facing financial ruin due to lost wages and out-of-pocket expenses 💔 * People are navigating a maze of fragmented services with little support * The quality of care for our elders and disabled is declining due to caregiver burnout * New technologies are being developed but remain inaccessible to many who need them * Low morale among professional caregivers is translating into worse outcomes for care recipients At CareYaya, we're doing our part by leveraging rapid innovation in AI and neurotech to advance access to affordable care. www.careyaya.org But, no one can solve this crisis alone. And we can't wait for the politicians to catch up. We, the voters, need to demand that caregiving becomes a priority in this election and beyond. 💪 We need to make our voices heard at town halls, in letters to our representatives, and at the ballot box. It's time to demand REAL leadership on caregiving policy. Who's with me in making caregiving impossible for candidates to ignore? Let's turn this silent epidemic into a demand for real solutions. Our loved ones, our economy, and our nation's future depend on it. ❤️
