This Election Day, let's remember: behind every vote is a person with hopes, fears, and experiences that shape their views. In the workplace and beyond, we'll encounter differing opinions. Instead of judgment, let’s try curiosity. Instead of division, let's try kindness. As Election Day 🇺🇸 is tomorrow, it’s crucial for employers and people leaders to be aware of their employees' rights related to voting 🗳️. Here are key points to consider: 1️⃣ Voting Time Off 📆: Employees often have the right to take time off to vote. Familiarize yourself with local laws to ensure compliance and support your team's participation in the electoral process. 2️⃣ Non-Discrimination 🌈: Ensure a workplace culture that respects all political beliefs. Employees should feel safe to express their views without fear of retribution. 3️⃣ Encourage Participation 🫶: Consider sharing resources about polling places and voting procedures. Empowering employees to engage in democracy can foster a more inclusive workplace. 4️⃣ Respect Privacy 🤫: Be mindful of the personal nature of voting decisions. Maintain confidentiality regarding employees' voting choices and discussions. By supporting your employees in exercising their voting rights, you contribute to a healthier workplace and community engagement. Let's encourage civic participation together! 🎉 #datHRguy #humanresources #voting #employeerights #civility #leadership

Election season brings on strong emotions—not just for voters. HR leaders are considering how to support diverse employee populations right now. Regardless of political affiliation, everyone deserves a sense of #belonging in the workplace. 🤝✨ During a panel I joined at Transform 2024, "Fostering Unity Amid Political Diversity in an Election Year," we explored ways to support teams in workplaces with diverse political views, offering tips to help leaders navigate sensitive topics effectively as the election year marches on. Some tips included: 1️⃣ Team Agreements: Create team norms around Election Day. Decide in advance if you’ll discuss results, adjust meeting schedules, or opt for remote work with no meetings. This does not need to happen at the corporate policy level. Teams and people know best. 2️⃣ Promote Psychological Safety: Create safe spaces where employees can express their thoughts without fear. 🛡️This might include anonymous channels for your company’s leadership (instead of public ones that put leaders on the spot). Referencing company values (e.g. transparency, belonging) can help leaders proactively address sensitive discussions. 3️⃣ External Resources: Check out organizations like Business for America and Civic Alliance to borrow from their well-thought-through toolkits for managing political diversity in the workplace. If you are thinking about this topic for your organization, don’t miss the upcoming live stream hosted by #Transform - Stress Less: Navigating Employee Well-being During Election Season - on October 24th, 10 am PT 🗳️📅 Big thanks to Samara Jaffe and Transform for hosting these timely conversations! 💬 Let’s support each other during this crucial time in our country! 🌟 #HR #diversity #belonging #democracy #psychologicalsafety #electionday ARCx | The Talent Design Studio Sarah Bonk Kristin J. The election is on a lot of people's minds right now. But without thoughtful guidance, casual conversations at work about the election could unintentionally undermine belonging. Right now, you have an opportunity to set a productive tone where every employee, regardless of their politics, can show up to work and feel a sense of inclusion for the next 100 days. We're all stressing about (and probably overconsuming) politics right now, and sometimes it's hard to turn it off at work. Interact Software has put together a handy guide to help internal communicators navigate what defines a respectful work environment during a polarizing phase (hint: it doesn't mean clamping down on all political discourse). If you read one guide this week, make it this one! And don't forget to VOTE!
