I always find it fascinating to watch NYC City Council hearings. The Committee on Education hearing on the difficulties for remote login during the Feb. 13th snow day did not disappoint. The hearing primarily focused on the contract with IBM Security Verify and its ability to handle over 1400 transactions per second. Video is shared below. Some takeaways and thoughts: 1. There is a fantastic opportunity for LLMs to play a role in improving translations and communication of NYC Department of Education material for families - especially for the Bangladeshi community (quality issues with existing translations were raised in the hearing). 2. Risk analysis and identification should include worst case scenarios. All your users can theoretically attempt to login at once. Make sure your system can scale or fail gracefully. 3. Be creative when faced with limitations. Can't scale? Stagger start times. 4. How can NYC better sync City Council with NYC agencies? What role can artificial intelligence play? https://lnkd.in/g3amZTNC #edtech #artificialintelligence #NYCDOE

Technology opened doors. But are our personalized algorithms closing windows? In this clip from "The Soft Skills Crisis," Raquel Walsh, CHGM and I explore the internet's vital role in social class mobility. While personalized algorithms can feel magical in anticipating our every thought, there's a hidden cost. We’ve lost our shared reality, but we don’t perceive it that way. We perceive ourselves as more informed than everyone else. Instead of approaching people with strong conflict resolution skills, we often dismiss them as uninformed. The question isn't whether technology is good or bad - it's about how we maintain human connection in an increasingly personalized digital world. 🌍 Calling all educational professionals! Are you passionate about making a difference in education? Although this 16-year-old video may be dated, this innovative approach should be the way we need in revolutionizing the way educational institutions in communities, with limited access to technology can empower their students. We need to start the entrepreneurial mindset at an early age and by the way, the United States was founded basically as a nation of independently minded entrepreneurial people. Watch the video here: https://lnkd.in/gpgXg9Ee This approach utilizes a combination of low-cost technology solutions and creative teaching methods to bridge the digital divide and provide equal opportunities for students to thrive in the digital age. Here are three reasons why this approach can have a significant impact on educational institutions: 1️⃣ Increased Access: By leveraging affordable technology tools such as Raspberry Pi and open-source software, even schools with limited budgets can provide students with access to digital resources and online learning opportunities. 2️⃣ Enhanced Learning Experience: With hands-on projects and collaborative activities, students can develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and technical skills that are essential for success in today's digital economy. 3️⃣ Sustainable Solution: This approach promotes a sustainable model of technology integration that is scalable, adaptable, and cost-effective, ensuring long-term impact and sustainability for educational institutions. But don't just take my word for it! Here are three reputable references that back up the effectiveness of this approach: 📖 According to a study published in the Journal of Research on Technology in Education, low-cost technology solutions have been shown to significantly improve learning outcomes in resource-constrained environments. 📖 A report by UNESCO highlights the importance of innovative teaching methods and technology tools in enhancing access to quality education for all learners, especially in underserved communities. 📖 The World Bank has also recognized the potential of affordable technology solutions in narrowing the digital divide and fostering inclusive growth in developing countries. So if you're ready to make a real impact and transform education for the better, join us in championing this innovative approach and empowering students for a brighter future. Together, we can create a more equitable and inclusive education system for all. #EdTech #Innovation #TechForGood 🚀📚
