Airport hotels are great for small to medium size meetings. People fly in from elsewhere, take the shuttle and get to the hotel quickly. Meet then leave. Don’t need to go into the city. For upscale hotels, that’s the core business of the hotels. They actually want to be there and not the city itself. I once had a Leading Hotels board meeting at the Sheraton at CDG. The board members flew in and out on the same day.

I worked at the international hotel at lax in 68 at lax and it was one of the busiest meeting destinations in the usa in the mid 60s
