The new 2025 Global Employee Trends Report from Qualtrics is out (link below). You don’t need to read further than the introduction paragraphs to see that the current state of effective management practice is, quite frankly, sad. From page 2: “Of course, the real backbone of any organization remains its workforce, and as we look to the future generations, there’s unexpected optimism displayed by younger employees — but while it’s a sentiment that holds promise, it’s at risk of being short-lived as they gain more experience.’ Put another way: ‘I can’t believe it, the younger employees are still disillusioned! Just wait until they get to really know their supervisor/ VP / organization and see how we treat employees. Then we will see how optimistic they are. HAHAHA!!!’ That sounds more like something the newest Disney villain might say and less like something that should be showing how we, as business leaders, have learned from our mistakes and are now better prepared than ever to care for ‘…the real backbone of any organization…’ As new technologies continue to enter our world of work and emerge as a powerful force to level the playing field between competitors large and small, the most forward-thinking organizations will realize that the new source of competitive advantage will not be sheer size or the amount of technology within their operations. Instead, it will be their ability to attract – and retain – exceptional talent. Here are the key actions I expect to see from organizations who will emerge as the new industry leaders in 2025. - Evolving Retention Strategies: Organizations will likely develop more personalized approaches to retaining younger employees, emphasizing career development and inclusion. - AI Enablement: While advanced technologies will become commoditized, leading companies will invest in structured training and governance for AI tools to maximize their potential and mitigate risks. - Trust-Building Initiatives: Winning organizations will focus on enhancing leadership transparency, demonstrating benevolence, and fostering open communication to rebuild trust. - Employee Experience Innovations: Redesigning onboarding and exit processes will become a priority as organizations recognize their impact on employer branding and retention.
