Why My Team Embraced eLearning: Transitioning from Traditional to Virtual and Blended Learning In 2019, when my team first ventured into the realm of virtual learning, we were met with skepticism. At that time, face-to-face learning was the gold standard, and any deviation from it was frowned upon. However, the onset of COVID-19 changed everything, reshaping our perception of learning environments and methodologies. The pandemic forced organizations to rapidly adapt, prioritizing continuous learning irrespective of the location. The focus shifted from the traditional classroom setting to a more flexible, virtual space. The crucial question was no longer about where learning should take place, but rather about the outcomes it could produce. Organizations today are less concerned about the medium of learning and more focused on its effectiveness. They ask: 1. Did the learning enable our sales team to effectively communicate business goals to customers? 2. Did it transform the way our operations team works? 3. Have they successfully embraced Kaizen in every segment of their work? 4. Did the learning improve the team’s bottom line? These are the questions that matter to most managers. The effectiveness of eLearning is judged by its impact on performance and outcomes. Whether it’s sales, operations, or any other department, the goal is to see tangible improvements. My team has adeptly adopted eLearning, incorporating both virtual and blended approaches, and has achieved success tailored to the specific demographics targeted. For eLearning to be truly effective, it must occur in an environment where outcomes are clearly demonstrated. This involves developing courses that are not only informative but also engaging and practical, allowing learners to directly apply their knowledge in their daily tasks. In conclusion, the shift to virtual learning has been a transformative journey. The key takeaway is that the medium of learning is comparitively less important than the results it produces. As we continue to navigate this new landscape, the focus remains on ensuring that eLearning is impactful, outcome-driven, and seamlessly integrated into the organizational culture.
