It doesn't always have to be sexy to work... I was working with a client whose 14-week program was about to kick off. Up to this point, we had run several live workshops, and the course was 60% full. As we approached the final week, I was asked to devise a strategy to attract more participants. Based on data from the email list, I noticed one particular topic generated the most engagement, with high rates of replies, click-throughs, and opens. So, I suggested we run a workshop centered around that topic. Nothing fancy—no landing page or ads. We simply created a segment of those who had shown intent and ran a promotion with a direct benefit marketing message. While we didn’t fill the program completely, enrollment increased from 60% to 80%. What’s more, the client was over the moon. I owe the idea to Gary Bencivenga, who said, “The best marketing advice I ever received: Find out what your customers want and give it to them.” It’s always fun to put what I learn from the greats into practice for my clients.
