When I was at CommerceNext '24 in June, it was clear that DTC and 'traditional' retailers still have some stigma towards putting ad dollars in #games. Why? Hard to say. GamesIndustry.Biz covered a ComScore report stating that over 60% of consumers over the age of 18 engaged in gaming, and a plurality of consumers did a mix of mobile, PC, and console. Key Takeaways? 1) Drop the silly previous persona of a gamer... because they are likely a customer. 2) Not engaging in the games vertical is ignoring a positive touch point 3) Jumping in now while retailers and brands are tiptoeing in provides space for you to experiment 4) The right combination of involvement (ads, creators, events, etc.) can make for powerful impact.
