Looking for remote freelance marketing jobs? Here are some platforms to check out! 🚀 Upwork is probably the world’s largest freelance marketplace, so there are tons of postings and prospective clients. Contra offers commission-free payments, enabling you to keep 100% of your earnings. Backstage has lots of casting calls for remote content creators. Idealist.org can be a great place to look for remote marketing jobs in the nonprofit and social impact sectors. There are so many other resources out there, but for this post I’m just mentioning a few of the platforms that I’ve used myself and enjoyed! I’ve always been a strong believer in the saying “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.” When you’re trying to grow and sustain your freelancing business, it’s important to be active on multiple platforms so you can maximize your exposure to opportunities. 🚀 (But you definitely don’t need to be active on EVERY marketplace. To prevent burnout and wasted time, I think it’s better to identify the platforms that best align with your goals and just focus on those!) ✅ ✅ ✅ ✅ ✅ I’m James Brady and I provide tips and helpful info for anybody who wants to learn about solopreneurship, freelancing, and social media marketing!

Do freelancers exaggerate their success? As a freelance social media manager and content creator, I've been navigating the freelance world for a few months now, and every time I scroll through LinkedIn, it feels like every other freelancer is sharing stories of their incredible journey and the endless opportunities that come their way. It's easy to get caught up in comparison, wondering why everyone else's path seems so smooth while I'm here, still figuring things out. Are there things I'm missing? Am I not as qualified as others? But you know what? I've come to realise that it's okay to still be learning and growing. Embracing the journey, with all its ups and downs, is part of the excitement of freelancing. I'm passionate about what I do, and I believe in the value of my work. Sure, it hasn't been all smooth sailing. But through sharing my passions and skills on social media, I've started to see real progress. I've worked with some amazing brands for content creation and social media management, and it feels good to see my hard work pay off. For anyone else feeling overwhelmed by the highlight reels on LinkedIn, here's what's helped me stay grounded: - Following and connecting with people in my industry who inspire me. - Engaging in conversations and reaching out for support—there's a whole community out there willing to help. - Setting boundaries for my time on social media to avoid burnout. Since implementing these steps, I've started to feel more confident and positive about my journey, even though it's not always easy. And while I may not have close friends who are freelancers, connecting with content creators and social media managers over coffee has been a breath of fresh air. Freelancing certainly has its challenges, but I wouldn't trade this journey for anything.

💪Reminder: YOU (yes you, a badass freelancer) have the power to get out of a bad client situation. There are many joys of freelancing. Having the freedom to work from your couch or at the beach (internet permitting), getting to sleep in on a Wednesday because why not, and working with incredible clients who appreciate and value your work are just a few perks. 🚨But be warned: you might run into some not-so-great clients along the way. Here are some not-worth-your-energy client red flags to look out for👇: 😵💫 They try to talk you out of your rates. 🥴 They expect you to be available whenever they need you. 😑 They don't see your value. 😖They micro-manage you down to the bone. 🥱They never pay on time (and always have some "my dog ate my bank account" excuse). 🔥 Any of this sound familiar? Don't worry. ✅️ The solution: 1️⃣ Set aside time to communicate your boundaries. 2️⃣ Explain kindly why your rates are what they are, why micromanaging is hindering your work style, the thought process behind your work, and remind them of your payment terms. 3️⃣ The more experienced you are, the better your red flag radar will get. 4️⃣ But if a bad client doesn't respect or acknowledge your boundaries, don't be afraid to protect your energy and let them go. 🐠 As they say, there are plenty of professional, responsive, absolute joys to work with fishes in the sea. 🚩What are your biggest client red flags? . . . This is a gentle reminder to all recruiters and hiring managers that freelancing experience is as valid as any full-time job. "I'm actually concerned about your freelance experience." I'm actively looking for a full-time role as a marketing communications specialist, and this is what a senior brand marketing manager of a multinational corporation said to me during the interview. I thought about whether to write about this, but this is an important discussion. Freelancing has taught me: 💌 how to write for multiple marketing collaterals such as blogs, articles, product copy, social media copy, email newsletters, LinkedIn content, and much more 💌 diversity and inclusion, where I collaborated with clients from the UK, US, Canada, Australia, Singapore, South Korea, Viet Nam, Thailand and UAE 💌 how to help business owners develop a solid content strategy from scratch 💌 that it's important to upskill and add more skills to my portfolio so that I can help my clients better 💌 outreach and EDM, which I learnt on the job 💌 how to develop content for industries such as SaaS, Edu-tech, Ad-tech, IT, Retail, Fin-tech, and small businesses Are you concerned about having a team member who can literally adapt to ANY situation or stay calm in a crisis situation? Or know how to develop engaging content for a diverse audience? Please, someone, enlighten me on how this is concerning. I have been freelancing for four years, and I'm proud of every bit of that journey. I have also worked in-house for top-tier brands and organisations, so I know inside out how egoistical higher managers can be seeing someone with better skills than them... OR maybe you have someone in your circle whom you have decided to give the job to, and needed some stupid reason to reject a good candidate (just saying) 🤷♀️ Do you want to know something? Ask politely and professionally. If you want to know about my freelance journey, I would explain every little detail. Want to know why I'm switching to 9 to 5? I am glad to share the personal reason behind it, too. Anyhoo, if you're a hiring manager seeing this post, please be more respectful towards your candidates. It doesn't cost anything. For freelancers who are trying to shift from 9 to 5, have you faced any such experiences? How do you handle them? Also, I'm not salty about the rejection, but I'm (obviously) upset about the reasons she gave for her feedback. It's as ridiculous as it can be. #freelance #freelancewriter #contentmarketing #marketingcommunications #jobsearch #interviews #feedback #jobsearchstories #jobhunt
