What Kind Of Battery Is Inside A Tesla Model 3 RWD? This is the kind of battery that is inside a Tesla Model 3 RWD. Note, for earlier versions of this vehicle, it's possible to qualify for a replacement battery under warranty to LFP. Tesla vehicles are some of the most advanced on the road today, and you might be wondering what kind of battery is inside of Tesla's least expensive vehicle, the Tesla Model 3 RWD. Depending on the year you buy the Tesla Model 3 RWD, and whether the warranty on the battery was used, it can be one of two particular batteries. We'll go over those now and what they are - and how to manage each. It was around October 2021 that Tesla stated it would switch to using LFP batteries in the standard range Model 3. LFP stands for Lithium-Iron-Phosphate. This battery chemistry offers a little more range and can be charged to 100% with less degradation to the battery. An LFP battery is also heavier and reduces acceleration slightly due to less performance and increased weight of the battery. In models before that time, Tesla used NMC batteries - Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt, which are higher performing batteries for speed, but not as performant for longevity or range. These particular batteries also degrade faster when charging to 100% regularly. The kWh of the battery in a Tesla Model 3 RWD is around 60 kWh, with a usable kWh of about 57.5. What are things about Tesla no one tells you? That the car will lose power (a lot of it!) when resting idle overnight if it is not plugged in That 110 volt charging (20 amp) is sufficient for light daily use, possibly with occasional visits to level 2 or level 3 public chargers That only about 75% of the rated range is “usable” range, even less on long trips That Tesla is the first electric car that you can own as a sole vehicle, without having a backup gas powered vehicle That for most common uses (e.g. you have a home charger, and do mostly local city driving), the range of your Tesla doesn’t matter - whether 190, 240, 310, or 600 miles, you are only going to use 40 -100 miles on a daily basis. You get the best accelaration on a full battery That the “Full Self Driving” option is an advance purchase of a FUTURE feature - the car doesn’t “have” FSD, it only has “Autopilot” That the actual value of FSD is far greater than $8000 - probably $50,000 or more - so the current offer from Tesla is an amazing offer, essentially making you an “angel investor” in Tesla’s self-driving future as much as an “owner” of an electric luxury vehicle, assuming that the FSD future actually happens

The 2025 Tesla Model 3 Performance is THE PERFORMANCE BARGAIN for enthusiasts! A little over a year and a half ago we upgraded our Tesla Model 3 from a start range plus rear wheel drive to a Performance. The key rationale was to have AWD for winter, add a bit more range, capitalize on a high used market and a deal that Tesla had on at the time. The less rational part was that I like performance cars, and dollar for dollar, the M3P is at the top of the chart. When the M3P was released in late 2018, it absolutely smashed the competition. Nothing could keep up with 550lbft of torque at 0rpm. Fast forward to 2024 and new competitors can't even keep up with our MY 23 M3P, though they're now a lot closer. Now, the significantly upgraded 2025 Model 3 Performance continues to be FAR faster, cheaper and more efficient than it's IC competitors. It's not even close. If you want a performance the answer still remains Model 3 Performance. Why do you think that IC competitors can't keep up? Is electric simply a better Performance car technology? How significant is the new Tesla Model 3 Long Range Rear-wheel drive? Amongst all the range and performance figures that get the headlines, the efficiency is seriously impressive. Miles per kWh (m/kWh) will become a figure that's much more important in the automotive world – especially among consumers – and this particular Tesla manages 4.97m/kWh according to WLTP figures (the current measuring standard). The long-range car also manages to weigh 14kg less than the standard rear-drive car – with weight the enemy of efficiency, that's a similarly impressive stat. Here's another one for you - if you were to charge overnight on E.ON Next Drive's overnight tariff (just dropped to 6.7p/kWh between midnight and 7am) the new Long Range Rear-Drive Model 3 will cost you just £1.35 in energy costs to drive 100 miles.
