Unfortunately it’s a privilege to have the free time to put energy into relationships. Late stage capitalism is forcing many people to be over worked and underpaid so they take on more work. Free time is then spent resting snd recovering for more work rather than relationships. This is a band aid statement that forgets that living wages don’t exist. Balanced lifestyles are a privilege
My last role I left the business with stage 2 hypertension, resigned a week later and I haven't had chest pain since... It nearly took my life. I told my Doctor what I had decided to do and she started crying... We all know someone who worked themselves to death. We really need to stand together and continue to advocate for one another and build a world where we can all thrive. The rat race is dying, what will the future hold for us? Unsustainable practices are unsustainable, when will we hit the crossroads? Are we there now? Where do we go from here? In closing, I bring you the words of the great Canadian prog-rock band Rush, "And the men who hold high places Must be the ones who start To mold a new reality Closer to the heart"
Relationships? Lol, that's a joke. I quit my job, went to look after my ill father, for 2 years I was in my home, of course, I was learning, upgrading my skill-sets. Back home, I was broke, all the friends that I had, couldn't help me out or maybe they didn't, I am not sure. My family apart from my mom and dad looked down on me since I was unemployed and looking after my parents which to them seemed like I was sitting on ass and doing nothing. Finally my father was well enough, I asked my parents permission, I set out to restart my life, to chase my dreams and desires which were in a hiatus. Fast Forward, I learnt that the time I spent on doing things that were inevitable and I don't wish upon anyone has costed me dearly, I am struggling to get to job because of my gap and am broke again since I don't have a job. So, I believe that it's necessary for an individual who has similar life circumstances and conditions like me to prioritize their job above everyone and everything else, until and unless they have enough money, capital and time for every other things that aren't important, birth-givers are the only exceptions. Friends and other family don't matter at all.
As an employee at Government Marketplace LLC I would just like to say that the owners of this organization treat their employees like family.. which means so much to the employees. Thank you!!
On a personal level, your well being must be always your number one focus, at times we all forget that and these days more often than ever. All countries in the western World have forgotten what simplicity means, you see i grew up in tough conditions but during those times people have addapted and because there was not much choice as what type of house would you like to have? How about the car? How often you thinking of changing your furniture? All non-sense technology? People were more focused on people, in a strange way the aspect of taking care of yourself and others around you was more present in tough times than is now when you theoretically live a higher life standard. Time off was time off, our parents once they have finished work they have finished work and they start to focus on family, friends and life in general ...today you never finish work, stress is a real thing, depression is as high as it has never been especially to middle age men...It is close to impossible today to have that mind set, i am not talking about the few examples that have done it and done it succesfully, i am talking about the majority...we are addicted to our own dimise
This message resonates especially at this particular time. Attended a work mate's funeral on Friday (only in his early 50s) he did live for his family, so many stories, pics and videos were shared at work showcasing his love for them all. It was heart breaking to see his family having to say goodbye - way too soon. Take note of the above points where you can all, we do not know when we may be taken life is precious.
This is such a powerful reminder! 🙌 As a resume writer, I often tell my clients that while career achievements are important, they don’t define your legacy. A resume may showcase titles, promotions, and milestones, but the real value lies in the impact you’ve made—on your colleagues, your family, and yourself. Work should support your life, not consume it. I love the emphasis here on nurturing relationships, practicing gratitude, and growing beyond work. After all, the best stories we leave behind aren’t the ones about titles—they’re about the lives we’ve touched.
Well said!
There’s only 1 thing in this world that will never stop or slow down. It never loses nor does it not cause people to get hurt/killed by rushing. TIME is not a friend or something to be worried about. U can’t stop it or control it, so what’s the use huh? The only thing that you can do is manage & respect it for it is constant. Whether you are going on a date, family trip, or home. It can be a blessing or curse. The choice is yours to make. Spend it wisely with the people who love you and are happy to see you or spend it always fighting it, hating it, or burned out on it. You can’t take it with you and your family needs you to come home, remember getting old is not a curse. It’s a privilege & honor , as I tell my 89yr old grandmother, she feels like a burden. I have to tell her not being able to hold everything in that, it’s my honor, duty, & privilege just to still have her in my life. Don’t let it win the battle just concentrate on the DASH. You know the DASH. It’s your entire life in 1 lil symbol. You have your birthday, month, & year. Then comes the DASH just before your Death Date. U see that lil DASH is everything you ever done in life. Thing is who is goin/ coming to see your DASH because your Boss won’t. IDK what do you say?
