Platinum releases its new Human Rights Policy.   Our new Human Rights Policy formalises our long-held belief that all businesses – and that includes Platinum and the companies we invest in - have a responsibility to respect human rights. The policy outlines how we address human rights issues in our own operations, in our supply chains and, perhaps most importantly, in the investment portfolios we manage on behalf of our clients.   Our commitment to human rights is reflected throughout our Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability reporting (CRSR) efforts. Platinum became a participant in the UN Global Compact in 2023, thereby committing to the program’s Ten Principles including Principles One and Two which directly relate to human rights.   Within our broader corporate sustainability efforts, three of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) we have chosen to focus on have both a human rights focus and a particular resonance for Platinum: SDG5: Gender Equality, SDG8: Decent Work and Economic Growth and SDG16: Peace Justice and Strong Institutions.   We’re a business that’s all about putting capital to work to create financial security for our clients. If we do that well it can help generate economic growth – and good jobs - in countries around the world. Evaluating the political, legal and social institutions in the countries we invest in is part of our investment research – and our ESG engagements.   Our Human Rights policy is another strand in our web of 'social license to operate' initiatives. On March 8, 1975, the United Nations marked a day that would globally celebrate the resilience and achievements of women. Officially recognized two years later, International Women's Day (IWD) carries a profound legacy, rooted deep in the courage of women who stood against injustice. Its origins trace back to 1909 in the United States, when 15,000 women, frustrated by the harsh realities of the garment workers' strike in New York, marched for dignified working conditions, fair pay, and the right to vote. Today, we continue to honor this spirit, recognizing that our journey towards equality is far from over. It's a day to challenge the remnants of patriarchy, envisioning a world where every individual, like unique flowers in a diverse garden, can thrive in their own season. 🌺 This International Women's Day, let's celebrate each woman's unique strength and story. "Equality is Greater than Division" Equality: "=" Greater than: ">" Division: "÷" At its core, this phrase emphasizes the belief that promoting equality among individuals, regardless of differences, is not only morally right but also essential for fostering a harmonious and prosperous community. Unity Over Division: Equality emphasizes the idea of treating everyone with equal dignity, and opportunity. It recognizes that despite our diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives, we are all inherently equal in worth and value. Inclusivity and Diversity: Equality celebrates the richness of diversity and recognizes the unique contributions that each individual brings to the table. It affirms that every person deserves to be included, heard, and valued, regardless of their differences. In embracing equality, we create an environment where all voices are heard, perspectives are respected, and everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Fairness and Justice: Equality is closely linked to concepts of fairness and justice. It calls for the fair and equitable treatment of all individuals, without discrimination or prejudice.
