𝟵𝟵,𝟰% - It's time again for a post without eye-catchers. ☝ We tend to be cautious with factory key figures in our external presentation. But sometimes spotlight is appropriate to provide orientation. 💡 𝟵𝟵,𝟰% - Our new all-time high at X-FAB Dresden for line yield per month. 🎉 The exciting thing about microelectronics is the complexity, combined with extreme quality requirements, cost pressure and speed. Even at our technology node in the analog mixed signal segment, the production of a wafer comprises more than 600 individual process steps over a period of two to three months. Any error in one of these steps inevitably leads to scrap in most cases. Over the course of a month, this results in millions of individual steps that have to be processed without any human or equipment errors. 💪 I would therefore like to congratulate the #xfabulous team in Dresden for this outstanding result last month. This is the result of years of consistent work with a mindset to deliver competitive performance even with a small factory size and to benchmark us every day again with our colleagues in X-FAB Sarawak Sdn. Bhd. which helped us a lot as a role model to arrive at this level. 🙏 But it is also the merit of successful cooperation with our #suppliers to continuously develop things in a spirit of partnership in the excellent environment of Silicon Saxony. A big thank you to everyone who has accompanied us on this journey. 🗞 Electronic News! 🗞 The recent lay-offs at X-Epic, a Chinese electronic design automation firm, have raised questions about the company's financial health and the overall market conditions. While the exact reason for the lay-offs was not officially disclosed, the South China Morning Post reported that Chinese EDA firms experienced a slowdown in business during the first quarter of 2024 due to broader market headwinds. It is speculated that X-Epic, which may not be profitable yet, is taking steps to reduce its burn rate. According to the SCMP, the company has initiated job cuts within its research and development group. 🗞 Electronic News! 🗞 The newly returned CEO of Microchip Technology has cited a significant inventory overhang for his decision to close a fab in the US. The decision by Steve San? To close Fab 2 in Temple, Arizona, also hits proposed funding of $192m under the US Chips and Science Act. Chairman Sanghi took over as CEO two weeks ago from Ganesh Moorthy, who retires this week at age 65, and intends to stay in the role as well as chair. We have all likely seen this by now, the shock stock plumet from ASML, a Global Leader in the solutions for chip manufacturing. 🫣 After releasing their Net Bookings data (early) for Q3, 2024, it came as a bit of a stumble for the business which was projected more than $5bn by analysts, instead it was reported at $2.3bn.. Net bookings are a measure of orders placed by ASML's customers. For people in the industry, I don't believe this is a massive surprise given the recent Intel and Samsung news alongside their limitations around sales into China BUT, what is going to be the backlash? Perhaps a ripple effect passing down the Tiers which could cause delays in growth objectives.
