They say “like mother, like son” and I hope they’re right cause my Mum rocks! True to her Irish roots, my Mum has an unbeatable sense of humor and a knack for making life fun. She’s also a deeply spiritual human being. My Mum’s one of my greatest teachers - partly through her thoughts, but mostly through her actions. Growing up, I’d always try to catch her off guard – usually by launching an egg at her from nowhere and shouting “think fast!” Here’s the thing, I don’t think she ever dropped one. That’s my mum – quick on her feet and always ready for anything. My Mum was unquestionably the emotional rock that bound our family together. Not only did she give my Father the seed capital to start Rullion 45 years ago, she gave him, and her three kids, the self belief that they could achieve anything. Growing up dyslexic I was written off by everyone bar my Mother, who retained an unfailing belief in her son’s ability, dam the experts! This year’s been tough on my Mum. She lost her life partner, my Father, after 50 years of marriage. But if there’s one thing our family knows how to do, it’s stick together and find reasons to celebrate. Mum, as always, has been her brilliant self, lighting up every room she walks into. Her energy is infectious, and she never lets life’s challenges get the better of her. Here’s to my mum, the strongest, sharpest, and most fun-loving person I know. It was her birthday on Tuesday hence the post! Happy Birthday Mama!!
