I can’t express my grateful feelings more to DRA at Communications, Space & Technology Commission (CST) for this tremendous opportunity to have knowledge regarding public policy industry and experience at USA. I would like to highlight the key takeaways: 1- Public policy meaning is crucial to prepare the sector governance. 2- Policy memo is very important to start planing creating policy. 3- Understanding the stracuture that USA reacting to any problem facing the country and the policy key part of the solution. 4- Similar structure used in EU to formalize the policy. 5- Very important and recent policy topics are discussed as example neural analysis, chips acts, internet opportunity. 6- Leadership is key to form the structure of policy within the sector and the kingdom. And many that I would mention them in one post. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to David Hoffman Jim O'Connor and DRA team led by Ahmed Alrahmah for their dedication and support during our knowledge transfer. Most business-school research neither addresses major societal issues nor transforms industries. Their studies rarely impact business practices. While students focus on placements, faculty focus on top journals. Bold claims in research findings often help to secure perks like consulting gigs, speaking engagements, rankings, and incentives. A study in the past (the author or journal I am unable to recall now) has shown that top marketing journals have virtually no real-world impact on business practices - a truth of much B-school research. We were honored to host Dr. Rob Handfield, who engaged in an insightful discussion on 11/12/2024. The event was led by Judah Seidman and organized by the NJCU School of Business in collaboration with the #ASCM #NJCU #StudentForum. Dr. Handfield addressed current #challenges and #opportunities in #sourcing and the #globalsupplychain. He emphasized the #strategic use of #AI for "#whatif" scenarios and advised on optimizing #sourcingportfolios by balancing #reshoring and #offshoring based on #businessvalue and #criticality. He also shared his insights into the role of #ESG in #procurement, noting that many companies are tired of and increasingly frustrated by the demands for #transparency, #quantification, and #compliance with rising requirements. He suggested that while new government policies may slow some ESG practices, the focus on ESG is deeply embedded in business strategy and day-to-day operations, making it unavoidable. However, he proposed that a rethinking and redesigning of these practices may be necessary. Dr. Handfield encouraged students to develop essential #softskills and #projectmanagement abilities, which are increasingly valuable in #supplychainmanagement. He emphasized the growing demand for #analyticalskills in procurement, especially as AI enables scenario-based decision-making and #datavisualization. These are critical skills for effective day-to-day operations and management, including #planning and #leadingmeetings and presenting #insights to clients. According to Dr. Handfield, category management is the future of procurement. A skilled category manager is like the CEO of their category and should be well-versed in software, hardware, marketing, and market intelligence.
