Boy, oh boy, did we have an exciting week last week. The team were super busy pitching and securing coverage for Zama's $73m Series A funding round led by Multicoin Capital and Protocol Labs. And (even if we do say so ourselves) the results have been pretty impressive. 💫 105 pieces of coverage (and counting) across the UK, Europe and the US. 💫 Putting them on the radar of those at the top of the digital agenda in France. 🇫🇷 For those who are not familiar with Zama, let us take a moment to introduce them to you: 👉 Zama is an open-source cryptography company building state-of-the-art Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE) solutions to protect privacy in #blockchain and #ai. 👉 FHE is the holy grail of cryptography. It allows computing on encrypted data, without ever having to see it, removing all issues of confidentiality, data leaks and surveillance. 👉 Thanks to Zama, anyone can use FHE for anything they want without having to know anything about #cryptography. Defending Defence with Blockchain? Blockchain's Potential in Defense and Beyond? Cryptocurrency has been a battlefield since its inception. However the underlying technology of blockchain is stable. Since 2018, the value of digital assets on the blockchain has surged, showing its versatility across sectors like healthcare, supply chain, Education, travel etc, But, its adoption in the defense sector faces challenges due to the hierarchical structure of military organisations, contrasting with the decentralised nature of DLT. Is blockchain fit for active service then, what are some pros and cons? Scalability and Speed: Public blockchains, ideal for financial transactions, may not suit real-time military operations due to latency issues. Private blockchains offer faster solutions but compromise reliability. Data Volume: The vast amount of defence data exceeds the current bandwidth of DLT, requiring careful selection of what to record. Potential outside of the Battlefield: DLT can trace military aid, ensuring compliance with usage rules, and support environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals. In complex asset management, like the F-35 jet, blockchain can enhance supply chain traceability and warranty management. Smart Contracts: Automating actions through Smart Contracts can streamline supply chain operations, and work with the hierarchical order driven structure. Looking ahead, the defense research community is already dissecting blockchain's potential for military applications. Key areas like cyber defense, secure messaging, interoperability, resilient communications, logistics support, and the defense Internet of Things will always look to innovation to progress, and the impact of blockchain on Command, Information Systems (CIS), modeling, and simulation is expected to be profound, paving the way for a new era of technological advancements.

In the rapidly evolving world of cryptography, verifying large-degree polynomials efficiently is a challenge. The FRI protocol solves this by enabling the prover to demonstrate that a given polynomial is close to a low-degree one through a series of recursive folding steps. By halving the polynomial’s degree progressively, the FRI protocol reduces computational complexity while preserving the security of the verification process. The prover commits to the polynomial’s evaluations using Merkle trees, ensuring both integrity and consistency, which are verified through collinearity checks.
