Is the increased cardiovascular risk in #SouthAsians genetically driven? My patients and family tell me so. DNA is not destiny. I agree, however, that there are genetic pathways implicated in baseline cardiovascular risk factors such as diabetes and lipid abnormalities, for example. Great to collaborate with the team at OurHealth (Pradeep Natarajan and Romit Bhattacharya, MD, FACC) to prepare this nice review of genomic studies, pharmacogenetics, and integration of genetic information as it pertains to #SouthAsians into polygenic risk scores to improve cardiovascular risk prediction led by Johns Hopkins Medicine Osler Residency star, Abhi Gami. Excited to see our latest review on genetic drivers of cardiovascular risk in South Asians now published online. Thank you to Jaideep Patel, MD FACC and co-authors for their mentorship on this topic! https://lnkd.in/ePVgVCsq
I learn from you every time, Jaideep. Congrats to you, Abhi and the team.
Excellent.. which journal ?
Yes! We are complex biological systems indeed. We are all genetically optimized for an enviorment that doesn’t exist anymore. The better we can understand the sets of environmental inputs that are best suited for our individual sets of genetic variants, the better we will be able to prevent cardiovascular disease. New technologies will help us.
Great update!
