Over the course of American history, electoral access and pluralism have been the fundamental bedrocks that constitute the cornerstones of our democracy. Make no mistake that the institution of voting is crucial to ensuring that democracy sustains for generations to come. Steven Levitsky, author of "How Democracies Die: What History Reveals About Our Future", urged us that "[In order] to save our democracy, Americans need to restore the basic norms that once protected it. But we must do more than that. We must extend those norms through the whole of a diverse society. We must make them truly inclusive." Prioritizing electoral access and rehabilitating pluralism are prime examples of some of the basic norms that we the people are obligated to restore in order to ensure a just and inclusive democracy for all to participate in. Later, Levitsky acknowledged that "few societies in history have managed to be both multiracial and genuinely democratic. That is our challenge. It is also our opportunity. If we meet it, America will truly be exceptional." We must ask ourselves if we are ready to meet such a critical juncture in our shared history, accept the challenge laid before us and preserve our democracy for our children? If so, vote. Encourage your friends and community to do the same because it will take all of us to preserve that which we hold dear to ourselves and each other. Thank you Democracy Fund for elucidating how philanthropic organizations can magnify election-related work and inspire nonprofit organizations to contribute towards a just, inclusive, multiracial and genuinely democratic society in which all of us have the power to revive our democracy. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gaT7tXZj #democracy #pluralism #electoralpluralism #norms #commonsense #countryoverparty #civicengagement #MAEA
The All by April campaign sparked inspiration, community, and real change this election cycle and beyond! We are thrilled to share what we learned: 📢 All by April mobilized $155 million in early resources by asking funders to make election-related grants earlier in the year. 🎯 As a result, nonpartisan, nonprofit organizations were empowered to plan and execute their election strategies more effectively, secure resources at lower costs, and engage voters earlier in the election cycle. 💭 This campaign also helped change expectations about how philanthropy can support election-related work.
