There are several common misconceptions about coaching that are important to clear up. Coaching is not the same as therapy or counseling. While there may be some overlap in techniques, the context, focus and goals are distinct. Coaching focuses on improving leadership performance, career development and achievement of goals within an organizational context. Coaching is also not a quick fix, but rather a powerful engagement to help leaders grow and shift behavior over time. The most effective coaching fosters growth by helping leaders expand their possibilities. Having a coach is not something to be ashamed of - it's a sign of strength, not weakness. The best leaders know when to seek out a coach to support their own development. A strong coaching relationship involves setting clear goals and expectations upfront. Mentoring is distinct from coaching. Mentors provide guidance based on their own experience, while coaches help clients find their own way using coaching techniques and frameworks. Both can play valuable but different roles. Coaching is a results-driven engagement. When done right, it provides a strong ROI in terms of enhancing leadership capability and organizational impact. Overall, coaching is a proactive investment in accelerating the growth and effectiveness of leaders. #ExecutiveCoaching #LeadershipDevelopment #BecomingCoachable #100CoachesAgency

thank you Jacquelyn Lane for this important reminder, there is still some lack of understanding about the differences here. Blending #emotionalintelligence as part of #executivecoaching adds an increasing #selfawareness to our clients which, in turn, increases their career and business success. I do agree, that coaching and mentoring are not the same and I do agree that there is an overlap here. As an accreditated Master Practitioner Coach-Mentor, I believe, from experience, that my clients frequently want the high value of the blended skill here, mostly coaching with the added mentoring as and when they need it.

Well said. I'd add, that from experience, it's not just about leadership performance. The whole person comes to coaching, and I am always enlightened to see where the conversation, work and unlocking of potential take us. I believe that constraining ourselves to an organisational context leaves much unexplored. Hope that's helpful. Stuart

This is such a transparently true observation. Why does every key athlete have a coach? Becoming Coachable is essential. Unless you are ready and willing to solicit feedback from someone who understands you and how human organizations work, you cannot improve.

Hear, hear! Jacquelyn Lane - brilliantly stated. In today's fast-paced world of nano-second attention spans, coaching creates and holds that vital space for leaders to bring powerful resources and possibilities into conscious awareness that would otherwise remain untapped. This perfectly illustrates your point about coaching being a powerful engagement for long-term growth rather than a quick fix. 🙏
