I landed my first data analyst role without applying online In fact, I landed two offers by approaching potential employers and settled for one I did not like online applications in my early career I felt it was designed to favour the strongest candidates on paper while underdogs like me received rejections - Maybe it’s time you stopped applying online everywhere Not every job exists on the internet Many roles are filled via the backdoor Keep building in public, and don’t be afraid to reach out to potential employers Many employers don’t know they need someone until the right person with the right skills shows up at the right time Don’t put all your eggs in one basket Go offline via the back door - Follow Banji Alo for more actionable advice. #dataanalytics #data #jobsearch

Many candidates looking for a data analyst role apply the wrong way. They put themselves first. The result? They don't get shortlisted for interviews because recruiters think they are not a great fit. Recruiters don't care so much about you. They care about themselves and their immediate needs. - Put the employers first when writing your next job application. - Present what the employer wants as it relates to your background. - Show how you can add value. - Reiterate your genuine interest in the role. Make it about them and steal their attention. ___ New to data analytics? Get my free guide immediately. The link is featured in my profile. Hey #datafam. Great advice below by Kelly Adams. In today's job market, it can be a long journey to land the job you have always wanted. Following the tips she mentions below will help make that road less bumpy. #data #dataviz #dataanalytics #tableau #certifiablytableau #mentor #mentorship #jobtransition
During my data analyst job search, I got stuck at nearly every stage of the hiring process. Each time I took a step back, analyzed the problem, and worked on a solution. 🛑 No interviews 🟢 I revised my resume: it to specific job titles like data analyst, emphasized focused my transferrable skills, and experimented with different version). I also continued to network. 🛑 Stuck at the recruiter call or hiring manager interview: 🟢 Spent time creating a clear story to explain my career transition and how my transferable skills fit the role. 🛑 Told I was a “good candidate” but I lacked real-world experience 🟢 I created my own experience by volunteering with a non-profit and using data at part-time marketing role using data. 🛑 Struggled in the technical interview 🟢 I didn’t just practice SQL problems but also practiced explaining my reasoning and concepts as well. 🛑 Didn’t receive an offer 🟢 I reminded myself that sometimes, the decision comes down to factors outside my control like team dynamics or other candidates’ experience. What mattered was that I did everything I could. This wasn’t a quick fix, it took the time to identify where I was struggling and to address each gap. P.S. While I job searched from October 2022 to June 2023, I know today’s market is even tougher. But, taking the time to analyze my own data and focus on what I could control made a big difference.

🙂Thoughts on High Applicant Numbers for a Single Vacancy? I recently came across a Junior Data Analyst position at a leading company, but what caught my attention was the staggering number of applicants—17,000+ for a single vacancy! This made me wonder: 🔹 What drives such high competition for entry-level roles in data analytics? 🔹 How should job seekers navigate such crowded job markets to stand out? 🔹 Is this a reflection of increasing demand for data-related roles or a saturation of candidates with similar skills? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. Do such numbers discourage applicants, or do they push you to strive harder? And how can companies manage such high application volumes effectively while ensuring a fair hiring process? Looking forward to an engaging discussion! #Jobmarket #Dataanalytics #Careerthoughts #Highcompetition #OpentoInsights #linkedin

This month I’ve been seeing a lot more Data Analyst positions opening up. How long will this last? No one knows. But, this is a sign that even in a volatile Job market opportunities can spring up when least expected. This is why it’s best to stay prepared. Keep your skills sharp, keep your resume updated and remain consistent in your job search. Play around with the terminology. Don’t just search Data Analyst, but also try to search by the skills you acquired. For example type in “Power Bi” in the job boards and see what all roles pop up. You might be surprised what roles come up that don’t necessarily have the title “Data Analyst” Eventually one of these open roles will be sending you an offer letter. This is the time to stay prepared or get prepared. The market will bounce back before you know it.

Stop applying to data analyst positions inundated with 500+ applications—it's excessively crowded. Instead, consider sorting your job search results by the "last 24 hours." This simple adjustment has yielded significant outcomes for many. Every individual I've suggested this to has experienced heightened attention to their resume. Give it a try at least once and observe the difference. #DataAnalytics #Interviewapplication
