Well, for us in Louisiana, another year – and another hurricane! A Category 2 Hurricane when she made landfall on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, Francine has left a lot of damage in her wake. On Friday, September 13, 2024, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced the measures it will implement in order to provide some tax filing relief to those who’ve been impacted across the entirety of Louisiana – and the IRS will assume that includes every resident and business in the state. "not enough money for another hurricane..." 1. What have you done regarding Helene affected? Where's FEMA? 2. Divert the 8 billion promised to Ukraine to Helene affected for starters. 3. Not a red cent more for Illegals for anything. 4. Boot all the illegals out of government sponsored housing immediately. Perhaps they will walk home? 5. Arrest Mayorkas for treason and send him to Gitmo. 6. Bring the boarder czar up on treason charges for sponsoring an invasion. FEMA flying in thousands is a direct example. 7. Initiate Impeachment proceeding and manslaughter charges immediately upon Cackles, Alejando, and Uncle Joe for Ashville dead etc. 9. Article 25 Biden immediately for his mental condition and have Johnson sworn in as POTUS until the election.

Hurricane Bert is battering our Union Jack out of shape in a way that feels very pertinent. We fly the flag with pride at St Clere Estate and have spent the past decade diversifying and growing (also with pride). Now I’m trying to work out if my next decade should be spent doing the reverse; declining the value of our assets and our business. Why would I continue ploughing our very limited profits back into the land and listed building and our growth projects, if all it does is increase the capital value and, now, our tax bill when I die? How does a 20% tax on any business’s capital assets make sense to a government that has admitted it needs enormous growth to fund it’s plans?

It's hard to believe it is 7 years on from the most tragic and shocking failure of a building in modern times. Grenfell has triggered a much needed shake up of legislation and changes to practice. This is throughout from product testing, design through to build management and quality. As an industry we don't need to just change our legislation but our attitude to building safety. Everyone should be safe in their home. as a newly qualified Architect, I always use Grenfell as a point of reflection. when I meet a client or contractor who argues why they have to follow our specifications because it 'costs more' I always remind them of the 72 people who lost their lives, and the families and neighbourhood which have been effected. The new changes in legislation have ensured attention is given to the safety of a building throughout it's use and start. I, as well as many of my peers are still finding our way through the new regulations. They are generally complex and in places not clear. It is imperative that as an industry we come together to ensure the new regulations are clear and unambiguous to avoid the repeat of such a tragedy.
