#Nonprofits, Let’s Talk About #Funding and #FairPay for #Clinicians Nonprofits are built on a mission of #service, #care, and #communityimpact. But here’s the issue: many nonprofits receive funding precisely because they promise to have #licensedprofessionals on-site, yet all too often, that funding doesn’t reach the hands of those professionals themselves. Instead, these funds intended to support clinical services are redirected or diluted, leaving clinicians underpaid and discouraged from working in these critical fields. When nonprofits structure their budgets without prioritizing #fairsalaries for licensed clinicians, they create an #industrialcomplex where it becomes financially unsustainable for dedicated professionals to stay. The result? Fewer qualified clinicians, a revolving door of staff, and a weakened ability to provide the very services nonprofits are funded to deliver. If we want nonprofit services to actually fulfill their #mission, we need to structure funding so that licensed professionals are compensated fairly for their expertise. This approach does more than retain talent; it builds #trust and #consistency in communities that rely on these services. It’s time for nonprofits to lead by example, ensuring funds are used as intended and clinicians receive what they’ve earned. When we invest in our professionals, we invest in #sustainable, effective care. #FromTheDeskOfJPJ #BSW #MSW #DSW #PHD #SOCIALWORK

It often feels like knowledge exchange between the non-profit and business sector is one-sided. There is typically an assumption that non-profits need to learn from business, operate more like a business, or ask business for advice and guidance. It often feels like non-profit expertise is devalued in comparison. One way this plays out is through funders and funding decisions. Many funders and foundations will advise non-profit organizations to keep their grant and funding requests simple, to not use industry/sector language, because the people reviewing the applications don't have knowledge or experience in the sector. They are often well meaning and wonderful volunteers who want to contribute to their community, and grant review committees are one way to do this. At a funder meeting recently, we were reminded of this - that some reviewers won't know the very sector they are making funding decisions about - so keep it in plain language. Keep it simple. It felt grating, and leads me to ask: why do we do this? In what other sector do we invite people without industry knowledge or experience to make significant financial decisions about that very sector? Businesses don't typically invite non-profit leaders in to review their plans and help them to make financial decisions. And that makes sense, because that's not our experience or area of knowledge. So why do we think this should be standard and acceptable practice in our sector? The work we do daily in our sector is serious and critical work. We respond to the growing complexity of the community, to the many people in our community with significant challenges and needs. We provide supports that enhance wellbeing, improve health outcomes, and often supports that can prevent negative outcomes including hospitalization, incarceration, and death. The experience and knowledge held in the sector is extensive, important, and should be deeply valued - and this includes in funding decisions. #2cents #nonprofit #granting #philanthropy #foundations

Kudos to the Ontario Nonprofit Network for their 2024 State of the Sector survey! The report highlights both the challenges and the resilience of Ontario’s nonprofit sector. It’s inspiring to see how nonprofits continue to step up for their communities, even as demand for services grows and funding remains tight. One thing that really stood out to me is how important data is for making smarter decisions and supporting communities, especially those that are often overlooked. We need to keep pushing for more investment in these data-driven efforts and make sure nonprofits have the resources they need to thrive. Let’s keep the conversation going and work together to build a stronger future for the nonprofit sector. #NonProfit #ONN #SocialImpact #StrongerTogether #FundingForGood

What is the 'Assign It Forward' initiative, by MedWell Solutions? Assign It Forward is MedWell's innovative community engagement program designed to drive social impact with a unique point system that collaborates with caregivers (hospitals, doctors offices, and clinicians), nonprofits, and small businesses. The Assign It Forward initiative, by MedWell Solutions aims to highlight how social responsibility can impact communities, support causes, and align with caregivers, through a pioneering mentorship and outreach platform. The integrative performance, mentorship, and giving back approach was themed around Pay It Forward. Pay It Forward is when someone does something for you, instead of paying that person back directly, you pass it on to another person instead. MedWell Solutions coined the term Assign It Forward, in an effort to encourage caregivers to achieve points through social responsibility goals with a focus on mentorship and opportunities for small businesses, and the earned points are assigned to nonprofits in the form of donations. The goal is to collaborate with community advocates. At MedWell Solutions, non-profits, healthcare organizations, caregivers, and small businesses stand out as invaluable advocates for the community. On October 9th, 2024, the Ontario Nonprofit Network (ONN) released its 2024 State of the Sector Policy Report, highlighting key challenges and insights affecting non-profits across Ontario. With nearly one-third of survey respondents based in Toronto, we hosted a webinar on October 10th to delve into local insights. The latest data indicates that the non-profit sector continues to face a human resources crisis impacting both volunteer and paid staff capacity. Partly as a result, 27% of Toronto-based non-profits cannot meet demand—higher than the provincial average—leading many organizations to scale back services and increase waitlists. Read our takeaways from the report and webinar here: https://bit.ly/3NyIK3c #NonprofitData #OntarioNonprofits #StateOfTheSector2024

"I’ve worked for for-profit, I’ve worked for nonprofit, and I’ve worked with churches, and this is what I’ve seen. The speed of business varies significantly across different sectors. In for-profit organizations, responses typically occur within a 24 to 48-hour window. Nonprofits tend to take longer, with a response time of 72 to 96 hours. Churches, however, often operate on a much slower timeline, with responses taking even 7 to 10 days. This slower pace is problematic, especially when dealing with financial matters, because slow response times can deter donors. In today’s fast-paced world, timely communication is essential for building strong donor relationships. By streamlining your processes and improving your response times, you can attract and retain more supporters for your mission." — Paul Hosch, Founder of NFM #ChurchFundraising #FinancialIndependence #FundraisingStrategies #EmpowerChurches #NFM #FinancialEmpowerment #CommunityImpact #FinancialSolutions #BlackCommunity #ChurchGrowth #NonprofitSupport #FaithBasedOrganizations #ChurchLeadership #ChurchFinancialHealth #blackchurch #BlackChurches
