A timely and measured commentary from Tim Richards of Vue on the potential impact on the UK cinema sector of measures announced in last week's Budget statement. And before the usual suspects start dismissing this as a self-interested whinge from a major multiplex operator, as illustrated by a similar post by Clare Reddington from the Watershed, and confirmed by a survey of UK Cinema Association members, these are impacts which will be felt across the entire industry. While the next two months promise some welcome respite from the content drought which has been the hallmark of much of the last 18 months, the unbalanced nature of the increases to company and venue payroll arising for increases in the National Living/Minimum Wage and Employer NI contributions present another significant challenge to a sector still very much in recovery. Base politics aside, it's hard to understand how the current Government allowed itself to be painted into a corner where the only options available to it in resetting the public finances and increasing investment in public infrastructure - objectives many of us would wholeheartedly support - was to load unsustainable burdens on employers, which taken together we estimate from our members’ feedback will equate to an 8-12 per cent increase in payroll for all UK operators. As Tim Richards acknowledges, there was some good news in last week's statement in the guise of a continuation of the current business rates holiday for cinemas and others in the retail, hospitality and leisure, sector. And the increase in the Employment Allowance for smaller companies was also welcome. But as I've made clear to those colleagues who've been in touch to congratulate us on that 'win', in that the former is limited to England only and is capped per company, for many these positives will barely touch the sides, leading to less investment, less employment and less growth.

🤣 I too get questioned, quite often, about the phones and washers/dryers 😂. Here is a little timeline on business divisions that Siemens no longer is on: - Siemens Mobile (phone division) was sold out to Taiwan-based BenQ in 2005. - Siemens Home appliances division was sold out to Bosch in 2015. ~ Bosch bought the right to use the name Siemens for marketing purposes. - Siemens Hearing Instruments (hearing devices business) was sold out to Sivantos Group in 2015. ~ they too kept the right to use the name Siemens for marketing purposes. - Siemens Energy (former Gas and Power division of Siemens) had a spin-off from Siemens in 2020. ~ though Siemens Energy has the name Siemens, it no longer belongs to Siemens Group. But that is business as usual. Currently Siemens has over 320K direct employees, and is focused on 6 business divisions: Siemens Healthineers Siemens Digital Industries Software Siemens Smart infrastructure Siemens Mobility Siemens Financial Services Siemens Advanta #proudtobesiemens #siemens #digitalization #workhard #siemenshealthineers #siemensmobility #siemensenergy #siemensgamesa #siemensadvanta #siemenssmartinfrastructure #worksmart
Haven't released a phone since '05, but they are still on everyone's mind. #Maythe4thBeWithYou
