[ AFTER THE HARVEST ] The harvest is over, our « winegrowers » get busy : 1️⃣Prepare the soil and sow 🌱🌱fava beans (legume used as green fertilizer for). 2️⃣Install the trellis for the young plants. (Stakes and steel wire to « structure » the vine) 3️⃣Remove weeds at the foot of the vines (inter-vine tool or pickaxe 💪 for organic plots)

It’s Spring! Here are a few tips from the plant experts over here at Lush Elements. 1. Repot your plants: Do you see roots creeping out the bottom of your pot? That’s your plant’s way of saying “I need a bigger pot!” Spring is an excellent time to up pot your plants to give them room to grow. 2. Fertilize to encourage new growth: Give your plant’s soil some extra nutrients to encourage a big growth spurt. What is your favorite go-to fertilizer? Let us know in the comments! 3. Dust off and polish those leaves: A layer of dust can really impede a plant’s ability to absorb sunlight. A freshly polished plant is a happier plant! #experttips #plantmaintenance

Without considering factors such as sowing distance, fertilizer recommendations, or costs, in my opinion: 🌱 Finer seeds = Suitable for seed propagation 🥔 Bigger seeds = Suitable for table potato production "Influence of Seed Tuber Size on the Phytotechnical Characteristics of the Potato" (The number of tubers and stems per plant is positively related to the mass of the seed tuber, especially when the tuber is most sprouted.) 🔹 Minor seed tubers yield a lower number of tubers per plant but yield a higher average mass of tubers. 🔹 The use of smaller seed tubers is recommended because they could present a higher productive potential and a higher percentage of large tubers. Do you agree? 🤔 #seed_mass #potato #potato_size #tuber #tuber_number #stolon #sprout @world_of_farmers @hzpcpotatoes

Friday Forage Fact! Ensiling or fermenting fresh forage is an effective way to preserve nutrients, allowing us to feed animals year-round. However, the value and quality of silage is dependent on how well it was preserved. The primary goal of ensiling is to acidify the crop as quickly as possible, allowing for the preservation of nutrients. Use Dyna-Sile™ for the quality production of alfalfa, grass, corn and high moisture grain silages. Dyna-Sile™ can accelerate the production of lactic acid producing bacteria present in the silage mass…safe, effective, OMRI listed for organic forage production. https://lnkd.in/gauKbMA6 #dynasile #organicforage #silage

If you are trying to manage a calcium deficiency, try mulching. Applying organic mulch around plants can help maintain consistent soil moisture levels and regular temperature. This can indirectly improve calcium uptake! Find out more: https://bit.ly/3TekE02 #DeficiencyOfTheMonth #Plants #Horticulture

Friday Forage Fact! Cereal grain and alfalfa harvests are underway, and corn will have its harvesting heyday in the second half of the growing season, too. Just because these crops can all be cut for haylage or silage, though, doesn’t mean they are created equal when it comes to fermentation and ensiling. Factors like moisture content and packing density must be in check to create a high-quality silage product. 35% moisture is the ideal window for corn silage. Wilted forages like alfalfa and grasses are ensiled more effectively at 45% moisture. Attempting to ensile forages outside of these ranges can create opportunities for spoilage loss, quality loss and dry matter degradation. Dyna-Sile™ can accelerate the production of lactic acid producing bacteria which protects the silage mass from these fermentation challenges. Dyna-Sile™ …safe, effective, OMRI listed for organic forage production. https://ow.ly/aZ5c50S46PH #organicforage #dynasile #silage

Harvest regularly to encourage more fruit production. 🍅 #TAFE #FarmDost #FarmDostMovement #KnowAboutTomatoes #Tomatoes #Harvesting

Always remember the 7 P's Prior Planning and Preperation Prevents P**s Poor Performance! This year has been incredibly challenging for farmers around the UK trying to source grass & small seeds. If you're a Rural Surveyor, Farming Consultant, Farmer or even a concerned citizen, then please do make this trickle through to your clients, contacts, neighbours or relevant friends. I'd hate to see all of your hard work filling out SFI applications, go down the pan because you're clients then can't source the seed. #farming #agriculture #regen #seed #ukagriculture
🌱 Grass & Small Seed Update 🌱 This year has been a challenging one for all in the industry, we have seen an unprecedented shift away from traditional grass leys and a spike in orders for SFI/CS mixtures, seeing stocks of a wide range of small seeds from chicory to lucerne decimated. Replacing these seeds is now slower than a local planning application, thanks to stricter European import standards. What used to take days now takes weeks. We have been advised by several suppliers to expect delays on grass & small seed orders, if and when stocks run dry. We can see potential delays and bottlenecks at mixing plants. We are imploring all growers to get your orders in early this year to avoid any potential delays and heartache. This is a message to all farmers and not just our customers, though if you aren’t yet, then drop George an email or call to find out more about the different options we can offer you here at Cope.
