I love when this happens. Such an inspiring and thought provoking learning session by SIETAR Europa « Teaching Global Leadership - Navigating different intercultural paradigms », moderated by Marie-Therese Claes and Bettina Gehrke Discussing the diverse case studies applying 3 different paradigms of analysis: -. Positivistic paradigm - helps to understand that there are cultural differences in value orientations within social systems -. Interpretative paradigm - goes further asking for what exactly these differences consist of and why there are cultural differences: looking at language, meaning, and intersectionality -. Critical paradigm (incl. post-colonial approaches) - examining how marginalised groups or individuals can bring about change and enhance their circumstances through strategic modes of resistance   The key takeaway: neither paradigm on their own is a silver bullet: but the combination of all gives the richest and most complete insight in interpreting global leadership situations With a head full of new food for thought: a perfect way to end the day. I am excited to announce that I have been given an opportunity to contribute a chapter to the second edition of the esteemed book, "Mapping Global Leadership: Cross-cultural Analyses of Leadership Styles and Practices," which is published by CCBS-Press and the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS). The chapter titled "Leadership Styles and Practices in Portugal" (still subject to refinement) has been submitted for the final review, and I am eagerly awaiting its final publication (forthcoming, June 2024). This book is the culmination of an extensive research project undertaken by hundreds of students enrolled in the "Cross-Cultural Business Skills" program at the AUAS, led by the Cross-Cultural Business Skills (CCBS) global fact. Over several months, the students employed various research methods to empirically investigate leadership styles and practices across dozens of countries worldwide. It is an honor to be part of this project, and I am grateful to the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences and the research team, especially Emma Dijkstra, for the invitation and for entrusting me with this opportunity.
