Did you know? The right to food is enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa under Section 27 (1) (b), which states that "everyone has the right to have access to sufficient food and water". Yet, on World Hunger Day, we confront the harsh reality of hunger in South Africa. In 2021, 2.1 million households (11.6%) faced hunger. Heartbreakingly, over half a million of these households include children under five. This is an urgent humanitarian crisis demanding our immediate attention and action. Businesses and organisations have the power to change lives. By providing meals, donating food, and supporting food security programs, we can offer hope and sustenance to those in need. Every act of kindness counts. At Daisy Business Solutions, we are committed to fighting hunger. This World Hunger Day, we distributed 5000 sandwiches to underprivileged communities across the nation, showing that collective action can make a big difference. We urge other organisations to join us. Join us in this critical mission. Every contribution helps. Together, we can create a future without hunger. While many people are planning their Thanksgiving dinner this weekend, household food insecurity incidence continues to rise to affect more than 20% of Canadians. We all feel good donating to the food bank, but it doesn't get to the root of the problem. Food banks are a bandaid solution for the underlying need for policy change to increase food security for all Canadians. Such an important point to draw awareness to. The impact and effects of climate change are not evenly distributed. Many 1st world countries have benefited for years (both financially and otherwise) from using products or processes that contribute to climate change, but the greatest impacts from these changes are likely to be felt by some of the world's poorest countries, and in regions that do not have the means to protect themselves against it.
🚨 The Horn of Africa is at the forefront of the climate crisis Prolonged droughts in Somalia have destroyed crops and livestock, causing extreme food insecurity. This has led to: ⚠️ 3.8 million people leaving their homes ⚠️ Almost 2 million children put at risk of acute malnutrition ⚠️ 40% of the population needing humanitarian assistance On a journey back to his birthplace, in Somaliland, Save the Children ambassador Sir Mo Farah met mothers who told him heart-wrenching stories of how climate change had made it difficult to feed their families. He also visited our health centres, where staff diagnose, treat and prevent malnutrition to help create lasting change for children who need it the most. He ﷺ said: “The best charity is giving water to drink.” 💧 💙💛HDF is working tirelessly to bring life-saving food and clean drinking water to those most affected by this crisis. By addressing these basic needs, we can prevent disease, combat hunger, and restore hope to families who have lost so much. Together, we can make a difference. Let’s ensure our brothers and sisters in Somalia are not forgotten. 🔗🇸🇴 Learn more and donate today: hdfund.org/somalia
