“Get it right, make it safe!” 🟠 As we observe World Patient Safety Day 2024, we take this opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to placing patients at the center of our work. This year’s theme emphasizes the urgent need for improving diagnostic accuracy, as precise and timely diagnoses are crucial for protecting patients. 🏥 In support of this mission, the WHO Athens Office on Quality of Care and Patient Safety has organized a series of impactful events and key activities to support Member States in Malta, Hungary, and Kazakhstan, all centered on enhancing patient safety. Athens: On September 20th, the Office, in collaboration with the Greek Patients' Association, will host the Athens Patients’ Forum, featuring high-level participation, where attendees will discuss strategies to improve diagnosis for patient safety. Additionally, in a symbolic gesture, the fountain at Omonia Square will be illuminated in orange on September 17th, honoring the World Patient Safety Day. Kazakhstan: An international conference on quality of care and patient safety will take place in Astana, on September 17-18, uniting delegations from Central Asia. 🤝 Malta: A stakeholder consultation meeting on September 17th will focus on developing Malta’s new Patient Safety Strategy. 💬 Hungary: On September 16th, a workshop will review practices for effective patient safety management, followed by a conference on September 17th to explore enhancing diagnostic safety and innovative solutions. 🩺 #WHOGreece #AthensQoCOffice #PatientSafety #WPSD24 WHO Regional Office for Europe JOAO BREDA Natasha Azzopardi Muscat

Today, WHO, together with the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, presented the Vision for International Medical Partnership in Ukraine.   This strategic document outlines the key principles and frameworks for implementing international medical partnerships between Ukrainian healthcare institutions and their international counterparts - an initiative launched during the Third Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen. The guide features the core values underlying this initiative, the role of Ukraine's Ministry of Health in establishing partnerships, opportunities for expanding collaboration beyond healthcare institutions, and the key directions on monitoring.   The partners in Ukraine embarking on a partnership journey will adapt the well-structured WHO International Medical Partnership for Improvement (TPI) model, which has been applied in over 20 countries globally. This model supports long-term efforts to drive improvement in the quality of health services and increase the resilience of health systems.   The document was presented during an online event organized by WHO in partnership with the Ministry of Health, with financial support from Canada and within the Universal Health Coverage Partnership.
