But here’s the hard truth: Chasing a so-called culture of excellence might be distracting us from the real drivers of success. Rather than relying on an elusive, nebulous cultural ideal, maybe it’s time we focus on something concrete—effective processes, clear customer focus, and giving employees the tools to do their jobs right. With that in mind, I posit that the stated need to build and sustain a “culture of excellence” is simply... FLUFF! Behaviours are not statements that describe a goal or how people need to think or feel - it’s about what action the person will perform and when they will do it - PAT (Person, Action, Time). If you wanted to harness the minds of all employees to look for, recognise and speak up about any problems – you need to change their behaviour. Be intentional about the behaviours that are interacting in your organization. As a leader it is so important that you fully understand 'behaviour based management' as changing employee behaviours is key to success. If you treat culture as a ‘product’ you can take actions to drive behaviours that have a high impact on the ‘culture of excellence’. It's not difficult if you know how. For any business strategy (or personal goal): No behaviour change = No lasting success.
