An open letter from Meta employees to Mark Zuckerberg and Meta's leadership. Very well articulated, I couldn't have done it myself better! I left Meta end of 2023 because of many things similar to what's mentioned in the letter, so I can definitely relate.

Ok, I am going weigh in on the backlash that is happening for DEIA. 😞 First, it is real. Many organizations are eliminating their DEI programs to avoid backlash from customers, the media and in some cases even their own employees. 😊 But it is important to note that DEI will NOT go away. 👉 Companies will begin to change the name of DEI programs. They will no longer be a separate department but embedded in HR, Operations, Recruiting etc. 👉 We will see a rebranding of DEI similar to how Facebook became Meta. We will see DEI become things like "Talent Solutions", "Change Makers", "Global Impact" and the list goes on. 👉 So, while many of us feel frustrated and discouraged by the current environment rest assured the believers in this work are resilient and we have faced backlash before. We will keep on, keeping on. #DisabilityInclusion #InclusionMatters #HumanResources

Commitment to diversity and inclusion can be more authentic if we operationalize the intent through out organization’s policies, governances, processes and decisions etc. It is about what I call “human first” thinking and doing. Thanks Meg O'Connell, PHR for calling out where we are and where we are heading re: DEI/DEIA evolution. #humanfirst #governance #policy #process #authenticinclusion

How do politicians squiggle into new careers? As the UK moves on from the election last week, there will be a lot of former MPs considering what to do next. The Liberal Democrat former leader Nick Clegg went to join Meta in 2018, and it must have been quite a transition to tech from politics. This week's Internal Tech Emails newsletter (which is a great follow if you're not familiar) contains a string of emails between Nick, who has a task at hand and is trying to approach it in a structured way, and the Meta senior leaders who are waffling along (as is common in tech leadership!) In fact, Mark naming himself as "the most famous Millennial" is really quick icky (is that even true?) I think the emails are a good insight into how hard it is for anyone to squiggle into a new sector, trying to pick up new norms and ways of working, while remaining productive. Link in comments.

"Done is better than perfect." - Sheryl Sandberg Sheryl Sandberg, the COO at Meta and former Chief Operating Officer at Facebook, reminds us that in the fast-moving world of technology, 'done' very often trumps 'perfect'. In such a Velcro-to-velvet industry driven by innovation, one can only afford to wait less and move faster, lest it risks missing out. Let's all take on this attitude of making things happen while we work on our projects and goals. Perfection is an excellent ideal, but it is in taking action, iterating, and learning from mistakes that true innovation and impact usually come in. Let's move forward, make things happen, and refine. #TechLeadership #Innovation #SherylSandberg #ProgressOverPerfection #Motivation

"Move fast and break things" was once Mark Zuckerberg's mantra at Facebook and Meta. He believed that breaking things was necessary for moving at speed and getting things done. We respectfully disagree. This approach risks breaking two things you simply can't afford to break if you want your business to go the distance: people and trust. Join us on March 21st as Harkn CEO & Founder David Bellamy makes the case for an alternative approach – one that instead seizes the many opportunities for improvement that exist in our every day working lives. In the session, we’ll explore how the listening organisation can move fast, fix things and build trust. Learn how to create a more responsive, engaged, and trusting workplace where every voice can contribute to meaningful action. You can register for it here: https://lnkd.in/evxP-ehY #HowDoYouHarkn? #employeelistening #hrcommunity #employeevoice #workplaceculture #trust #innovation #visionaryleadership

From “robotic” to relatable Mark Zuckerberg’s transformation from a “robotic” CEO to a more approachable and relatable leader in 2024 has reshaped the public perception of both him and Meta. Adopting a casual style, sharing more personal stories on social media and openly critiquing competitors like Apple have allowed him to connect more authentically with audiences. This strategic rebranding moves the focus away from past controversies, positioning Meta as a forward-thinking, innovative company. Zuckerberg’s shift in personal branding has not only enhanced his own image but also improved Meta’s reputation, creating a stronger bond with the public. This is a powerful reminder that businesses can benefit by prioritizing founder branding. A relatable and authentic founder can build trust, attract opportunities, and stand out in even the most competitive markets. #Leadership #PersonalBranding #BusinessStrategy #Rebranding

If you had the chance to meet one-on-one with a C-level of your company for 15 minutes, how would you use that time effectively? I had the privilege of having Maxine Williams, one of my biggest references of female tech leaders, be generous enough to share her valuable time with me today for a chat about diversity, inclusion and innovation! Preparation is key to not waste a single precious minute and here are some of the steps I took beforehand: - Provided a brief yet concise introduction of myself to convey my motivation for signing up for a slot, what I do at Meta, and a bit of my background within just a few minutes - Prepared targeted questions related to shared interest areas between the two of us to ensure a productive and enjoyable conversation from start to finish! - Sought her perspective on a topic directly relevant to a project I'm currently working on If you're meeting a leader you are not well-acquainted with (although in my case, I have been following Maxine's work closely since her speech during my onboarding at Meta HQ back in 2019), do some research about their personal history, career milestones, key achievements, and top interests. This will allow you to find common ground to establish rapport with that person and determine what you really want to take away from the conversation. Focus on topics that are not too obvious or frequently discussed by that person in other public forums. Additionally, consider how you want to be remembered after that conversation! Maxine's genuine interest in knowing more about my background shouldn't come as a surprise given her remarkable humane touch. It is an honor to have direct access to such a brilliant mind who is leading a vital part of the company's efforts towards creating a more diverse and inclusive world! Lastly, during our conversion, we touched upon my birthplace and I realized that Brazilian brigadeiros continue to amaze people from other countries, leaving a lasting impression for those who have tried them! I'll make sure she gets a delightful taste of it soon!
