University of Waterloo is proof that if you put a bunch of nerds in a place where there's absolutely nothing going on, and give them food, shelter, and a decent internet connection, they'll become the backbone of the world's technology workforce. This phenomenon must be studied.

My concern Standing Out in the Crowd: In today's ever-evolving new technologies emerge daily, redefining what's possible in computer science. As exciting as these advancements are, they also pose unique challenges, especially during an economic downturn. As computer science students, we find ourselves at the intersection of innovation and opportunity. Despite entering the workforce in large numbers, there is less demand. #ITJobs #Recession #TechTrends #CareerGrowth #ContinuousLearning #Networking #Adaptability #Innovation #ComputerScience #LinkedInTips

Debunking Misconceptions about Computer Science: One common misconception I've encountered is the belief that computer science is exclusively reserved for those deemed "smart." However, I firmly believe that computer science is an inclusive field, accessible to everyone regardless of background or perceived intelligence. In the enlightening TED Talk "Computer Science is for Everyone," Hadi Partovi stresses the importance of diversity in perspectives and experiences, underscoring how they enrich the field. My own journey in computer science exemplifies this principle. I've had the privilege of learning and growing alongside individuals from diverse backgrounds, each bringing unique insights to the table. It's clear to me that computer science is not merely a technical skill—it's a powerful tool for empowerment and innovation. By democratizing access to computer science education and fostering a culture of inclusivity, we can unlock the potential of individuals from all walks of life to harness the power of technology. This, in turn, enables them to drive positive change in their communities and beyond. Let's embrace diversity, break down barriers, and empower everyone to be part of the ever-evolving landscape of computer science. Together, we can create a future where technology is truly for everyone. #TechEmpowerment #DiversityInTech

I argue that intelligence is fundamentally situational; the concept of a universal, general intelligence is a misconception fueled by the prevailing mode of production in our society. Our thought processes do not exist in isolation; rather, they are crucial elements of a complex network referred to as society. This network establishes limits that are deeply intertwined with the type of civilization we are part of. Amidst this backdrop, a critical question emerges: Has the advent of artificial intelligence the potential to redefine our way of living and the nature of human thought itself, challenging the constraints imposed by human civilization and our moral standards? I am firmly of the belief that the upcoming years will be crucial in resolving these questions. As we navigate towards this new reality, it is imperative that we prepare ourselves to fully engage with and support this transformative era. - Sunday Reflections from a Software Engineering Student.

The tech world moves fast. Like, REALLY fast. So, is a Computer Science degree still relevant in the age of AI, bootcamps, and self-driving everything? 🤔 I dug into this very question (and dusted off some old textbooks 📚) for my latest YouTube video. We're talking universities feeling the heat, the rise of specialized colleges, and whether bootcamps are a shortcut or a dead end. No buzzwords, just honest insights from someone who's been in the tech trenches for a while. Hit the link, grab your favorite beverage, and let's nerd out! https://lnkd.in/eXT6HNsm PS. We got some insight from the amazing Omer Aziz Khan - around the 4 min mark PPS. Share your thoughts in the comments - did YOU go the CS degree route, or forge your own path? 👇
Is Computer Science School still Worth it?

Excellent 60s summary of #ComputerScience by James Landay. Especially your answer to "Biggest misconception about studying computer science" is so true. The Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI) just published 7th edition "The 2024 AI Index Report" is on my weekend read list. Thanks to Anka Reuel and the entire team.
