Black friday is a scam and let me tell you why I recently went to mall in US and couldn’t ignore the 50, 60, and 70% discount signs everywhere i went. Countries like india who don’t even celebrate thanksgiving are getting black friday deals You might think you’re saving money, but you’re not 50% of black friday sales are unplanned Most of the time, you’re buying things you don’t even need. You go to the store wanting one thing, but come out with plenty, just because of the sales. Companies make billions, while you’re left feeling guilty and financially worse. Buy-now-pay-later and abundance of credit cards can make you rationalise any buying decision It’s a great time to buy essentials you’ll use everyday and actually find value in. Just keep in mind that Black Friday is the single biggest marketing event of the year to trick you into buying stuff you don’t need, to impress people you don’t even like. #Marketing #branding #blackfriday #business
Scam 🤣🤣🤣. How it's a SCAM?😬 Everyone is selling something in this society. Companies want to sell their things and they can create/Use such events/days. If an individual or people are making an Impulse buying that doesn't means companies are scamming people. Companies like iPhone and Starbucks/branded cafes also charge people 300-500 times more for products with similar features and quality. Don't you think they are also scamming people all the Year. Still people buy their products and flaunt as a social status.
You could say its a offer trap and not a scam. Let's say you are starting the retail outlet in future. will you sell your products without any offers? No right? Offers are matters. In this era, Customers expect offers and freebies while buying things regardless whether it is product or service. I agree with one of your point, people end up buying different things in this offer trap. Smart buyer always analyze the price variation for a long time and they will buy once they think its the best deal to buy.
Hi Ishan, Your journey is incredibly inspiring! Reading about your experiences in Silicon Valley and seeing how far you've come from starting in Pune is truly motivating. As someone who dreams of immersing myself in the startup ecosystem of Silicon Valley, your story gives me so much hope and determination. Currently, I'm facing some financial challenges that make it difficult to visit Silicon Valley. Any advice or guidance you could share on navigating this path would be invaluable to me. I'm especially interested in learning about any potential scholarships, internships, or affordable ways to experience Silicon Valley. Thank you for being a beacon of inspiration for aspiring entrepreneurs like myself. Best regards, K.v.s nithin
Bro I love your perspective! As a Gen Z teen entrepreneur, I’ve always been fascinated by how Black Friday works—it’s bold, strategic, and grabs attention like no other sale. The vibe reminds me of Diwali in India, but it’s also so different. I experienced Diwali last year, and the energy, street hustle, and festive lights were incredible. It’s almost like Christmas here, but with its own charm. What stood out most was how negotiation was done in many of the local markets. The playful back-and-forth, knowing when to walk away or buy alongside using the local language. That felt like a live masterclass about negotiation. As a social entrepreneur, I felt torn: I didn’t want to push too hard on small businesses but just couldn’t afford to miss that opportunity. Black Friday here has its brilliance—it’s not a scam but can feel like a trap if we stay unprepared and don’t plan what we need to buy. Do you think India’s moving toward big-brand sales, or will street market vibes stay strong?
It's not a scam, It's just an offer trap, Holiday season is coming in December, PPL wants to purchase things and as a seller, you would tend to use this situation to your advantage. I understand if you are trying to use "scam" as your hook but it's misleading.
Agree with the logic but scam is probably not the right word
It's always good to live a minimalistic life and move ahead, that also helps you by making you more structured in your approach and free up your time for crucial tasks at hand. What we need to nurture and purchase always (be at the sale or not at the sale) are relations, learnings, skill development, etc. At least, that's something I do follow for myself. It may also be helpful to others. Having a data-led background helps me understand the behavioral aspects of how these product prices are decided especially for retail and CPG domains. Please do buy sensibly. Thanks for this share Ishan Sharma, totally makes sense
Totally agreed! The offers given to us make us forget the purpose, for which we had came and drives our mind into catching those hot deals, thinking it as an advantage to us. But rather they are those items which we didn't require at all. Ultimately we buy them(which are obviously extra spendings making literally no difference in our lives!) which cause us to loose our hard earned money, and assisting the ventures to generate billions! So. just go and fulfill your requirements. Nothing else!
YOU need to revisit your choice of words Ishan. Scam is not an appropriate word here. You could have added how to control oneself from impulsive buying rather than blaming sellers. I see lot of discounts offered through Rs 99 workshops, all are not scamming, they are selling using their possible skills. Of course, few exceptions in that as well.

3wI don't agree with this. I will explain why: Some people don't buy products on normal days because of high prices. Instead, they wait for sales like Black Friday, the Great Indian Festival, the Big Billion Day, etc., to save money or to buy additional products they need. Note: Not all people are the same. Buying products during these sales is a smart move. and not all discounts are scam For example, I wanted to buy a phone. On normal days, the phone I wanted costs ₹30,000, but during a sale, the price drops to ₹18,000. This allows me to save ₹12,000, which I can use to purchase another product or save, It's just a matter of choice. So, don't buy a product until unless emergency, save your money for sale and buy it
