Recent data breaches in South Africa have caused losses of up to $20 million, yet only 29% of organizations plan to boost cybersecurity budgets in 2025. A recent PWC survey highlights critical concerns like cloud threats, data breaches, and reputational damage. With 66% of companies prioritizing risk reduction and 68% viewing cybersecurity as a competitive advantage, the need for stronger defenses has never been clearer. #cybersecurity #securityresilience #cybersecuritybudget

In our recent post, we touched on the UK government's Code of Practice on cybersecurity governance, shedding light on the pressing need to enhance board awareness of cybersecurity, especially considering that only 3% of UK boards have a dedicated cybersecurity expert. Expanding on the Code of Practice, Infosecurity Magazine published an insightful article in January, giving a good overview of the Code and breaking down its key components. As cyber threats continue to evolve and pose significant risks to businesses, boardrooms must be well-equipped to address these challenges effectively. By engaging with authoritative resources like the Infosecurity Magazine article, board members can gain valuable insights and make informed decisions to enhance their organisation's cyber resilience. First, boards are supposed to act as a collective. Unlike management teams, which rely on individual accountability, boards ideally act as a single unit to achieve consensus on issues like strategy, risk, and governance. Boards make decisions collectively, and each member shares collective accountability. No individual board member should act independently, and each member should have the skills to contribute more broadly to the work of the board.
