When I was a first-year associate, one manager told me she loved #audit. I was convinced that she was out of her mind. It was tedious, boring, and seemed non-value-adding. I was drowning in rolling forward lead sheets, casting, and preparing confirmations. I couldn't believe anyone could enjoy audit. Years later, as I progressed in my career, my perspective changed. If a junior comes to me now complaining about how boring audit is, I’ll say, "You haven't experienced the real audit." Real audit is much more than preparing working papers. Don’t let those tedious tasks overshadow the true purpose of audit. Excel is the most used app on any auditor's laptop, whether or not you have audit software.
