At Iroquois Valley, we see the dedication that organic, regenerative farmers put into producing healthy, humane, and climate-resilient food for our country. This Thanksgiving, we ask you to reflect on the land stewards who grew the green beans, tended the corn fields, and raised the turkeys that grace your holiday tables. We are thankful for their partnerships every day, but especially as we celebrate with our families and enjoy the abundance of their hard work — Happy Thanksgiving from the team at Iroquois Valley Photo: Mint Creek Farm #OrganicAgriculture #aginvesting #impactinvesting #farming #regenerativeagriculture #foodsystems #naturalcapital #sustainability #OrganicFarming #RegenerativeFarming #FamilyFarm #SustainableAgriculture #FarmlandTransition #IroquoisValley #Organic #ESG #OrganicFood #RegenerativeAgriculturalTransition

❓️Who wants strawberries with their Chrismas turkey? ➡️ Is this really the future of farming and where we want our food to come from? Industrial farming. ❌️ Farms run by private equity firms. In this case Cebus. ❌️ Farms that are focused on returns to investors. ❌️ Farms with no biodiversity and little care for the impact on the countryside. ❌️ Farms that are not part of the community. ❌️ Farms that green wash that this is sustainable. Read Professor Mike Berners-Lee. It is not! We are at a crossroads in farming and how we produce our food. Do we want family run farms that have looked after our country side or private equity firms taking over providing strawberries to go with our Christmas turkey? ✅️ I am sticking with Christmas pud and some lovely cream. Nutritious foods like almonds are facing a growing threat from the climate crisis, especially in California, which produces 80 percent of the world’s almonds. We believe that healthy soil is critical to the longevity of almond farming—but practical research is hard to come by, and the financial risk of testing and adopting new practices often falls solely on farmers. Food companies have a responsibility to share the economic burden. In the short term, The Almond Project aims to identify approaches to almond farming that improve soil health, increase biodiversity, and empower local farming communities. In the long term, the program seeks to develop evidence points to encourage farmers and food companies to adopt practices that have the potential to regenerate California’s productive farmlands, help balance our climate crisis, and enable sustainable Central Valley agriculture for generations to come. We are a rare coalition of functional advocates — farmers, scientists, brands, technical service providers, processors, and customers — working together to advance the health of our food system. November is National Native American Heritage Month! Today we are shining a light on two small business owners of Native American heritage: Brothers Kaben Smallwood and Shelby Smallwood - Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. Kaben and Shelby founded Symbiotic Aquaponic, which specializes in designing and implementing aquaponic systems—a unique fusion of aquaculture (fish farming) and hydroponics (growing plants without soil). Their systems operate in a closed, sustainable cycle where fish waste serves as a natural fertilizer for the plants, and the plants, in turn, filter and purify the water for the fish. This process creates a self-sustaining ecosystem that conserves water, minimizes waste, and produces fresh fish and crops in an eco-friendly way. Symbiotic Aquaponic works with a variety of clients, from individual hobbyists and educators to larger commercial and community projects. The company aims to promote sustainable agriculture practices, boost food security, and reduce environmental impact. By blending their expertise in farming, economics, and fabrication, Kaben and Shelby have built a business that not only champions sustainable food production but also empowers communities to adopt innovative agricultural methods.
